Democratic Meeting.
Pursuant to adjournment, the Democratic party
of Rurke met in the court house, in Wavnesboro,
| on the 3d inst.
Major John C. Poythress was called to the Chair,
I and Mitcbel Jones requested to act as Secretary.
! The object of the meeting was to appoint dele
gates for the purpose of representing the Demo
j crats of Rurke in the Gubernatorial Convention, to
! be held at Milledgeville on the third Wednesday
i in June. On motion, the following named gentle
i men were appointed as delegates to that eonven
! tion, viz: Amos W. Wiggins, John R. Sturges,
John A. Rosier, Simeon Wallace, Jtidson C. Sapp,
Joseph Hines, Green Glisson, M. D. Jones, Robert
A. Reynolds, Robert F. Connely, and Isaiah Carter.
On motion, it was ordered that each delegate, in
j case he does not attend the convention, have the
power to till his vacancy by substitute,
j " M. I). Jones, Esq., offered the following resolu
i tiuns, which were adopted:
j Resolved, That we approve the administration of
: Governor Brown, and recommend his re-nomina
tion at the approaching convention, to be held in
i Milledgeville.
Resolved, That whilst our preferences are for
Governor Rrown, we do not propose to instruct our
delegates, but leave them free to act iti the con
: vention as they, in their wisdom, shall deem to the
best interest of the party, and the general welfare
of the Slate.
On motion, it was ordered that tile proceedings
of the meeting be published in the Waynesboro’
j Rues and Augusta Constitutionalist,
The meeting then adjourned until the 25th day
of May, ut which time delegates will be appointed
j to represent the party in the convention to be held
for the purpose of nominating a candidate to repre
sent the eighth Congressional district.

University of Georgia.—We have received a
catalogue of the officers and students of the State
University, at Athens, for 1858 and 1859, from
which we gather the following items :
Number of seniors, twenty; juniors, thirty-five;
sophomores, thirty-seven ; freshmen, fifteen ; par
tial course, six. Whole number of matriculants,
