BY JAMES GARDNER. A U GrlJ ST A, Gr A. SUBDAY MORNING, JULY 1, 1860. F,Y TF. GEOK APH. LATEST FROM HAVANA. New Orleans, June 29.—The steamship Phila~ delpbia, with Havana dates to the 20th inst., ar rived here to-dav. At Havana sugar was steady, and quoted at a9% rents. Stock 560,000 boxes. Exports of the week 45,000 boxes. Sterling Exchange 12% a 13%; Exchange on New York 1 a 1% premium. Freights actire. The health of the city of Havana was excellent. SCHOONER WRECKED. New Oni.a.ws, June 29.—The schooner Arro gante, from this place, bound to Campcachy, was lost on Alacranes reef, on the 7th. The crew and pasaengeia #,e saved, but the cargo was a total loss. SHIP NEWS. Nsw Obleans, June 29.—The ships Lucinda and Joshua Mauran, trom Boston ; the Young Eagle, trom Cardiff; the Ocean Sear, from Liverpool ; the Wellington, from New York ; the barks Heli con, trim New York; the Comet, from Havre; and the Nashua, from Cardenas, arrived here to day. New Orleans, June 29.- The United States steam sloop Pocahontas, leaves here to-morrow for Vera Cruz. She takes the latest mails and im portan! dispatches from Washington MARKET REPORTS. Mobile, June 29. — Sales of cotton to-day 300 j bales; Middlingsat 10 cents. Sales of the week 8,750 bales. Receipts of the week 345 bales’ against 560 bales. Receipts ahead of last year 105,785 bales. Stock 52,980 bales. Freights un changed Sti.l Lower.—A report of the proceedings of tbeseceders, which appears in the New York Her ald, does not allow the “ bolting convention ” as many votes as we had supposed they really had. It seems that they had a ballot, and on the roll being called Breckinridge received 81 votes, and Dickinson 24, making in all 105. The States which had cast their votes for Dickinson then withdrew, giving (heir full vote for Breckinridge. From this report, which we believe is in every way correct, we must infer that there were only 105 votes in the “bolting convention.” In the tegular convention there were on the first ballot 191% votes cast for different candidates, while sixty-two delegates.making 21 votes, declined to vote at that time. It mustjherefore be easily seen, if the Herat I'* report is reliable, and we believe it is, that there were in this convention 212% votes, being a majority over two-thirds of the whole electoral college. Finally the whoje of this vote <,212%) was given to Mr. Douglas, as the resolu tion declaring him to be the unanimous choice of the regular Democratic convention, was passed without a dissenting voice. It now turns out that Judge Douglas received two hundred and twelve and a halt-votes, a ms iorily over two thirds of the electoral vote, and Mr. Breckinridge only received one hundred and live votes, being a decided minority. Judge Doug las, of course, is the choice of the National Dem ocracy, and the only man that should be recog nized as such. By adding the one hundred and live votes of the secedets to the two hundred and twelve and a half of the regulars, it will be seen that there were in the two conventions combined mrec hundred and seventeen and a half votes, fourteen and a half too many. This.is accounted for from the fact that the seceders took in dele gates fiom New York, Mr. llallett, from .Massa chusetts, and others who had been rejected bv the regular convention. There were also double dele gations from a few States. We give the report of the first ballot, as it ts found in the Herat J: Douglas 173% Guthrie 9 Breckinridge 5 Horatio Seymour 1 Bocock 1 Wise 1 Dickinson 1 Blank 21 Whole number of votes 212% Ever,” State was represented in the vote except Delaware, South Carolina, Florida, Mississippi, Texas, California end Oregon. Georgia was rep resented in part, out uid not vote. Manigamny Confederation, Jane 28. Rvi hek Singular Phenomenon. —At 1! o’clock yesterday, quite a singular phenomenon occurred in front of the post office, in the open lot, in this city. A singular whirlwind, or serial combination, j took up the dust, bits of paper, straws, and so j forth, into a shaft or column, some three feet in ‘ diameter, and between fifty and eighty feet high, i straight and perpendicular, like the mast of aves sel. It commenced to move gradually across the rail road track until in s liont of the Georgia railroad bank agency , where it stood still for over a minute, and then returned about twenty yards, when it died out. It lasted altogether about live minutes, and its effect was beautiful to behold. It bore in every respect an accurate resemblance to a water spout at sea. Within ils diameter, the substances were whirled round with great velocity, while be yond its radius, everything appeared perfectly .still. Several of our citizens stood in admiration of it, rapt in the beauty and novelty of the scene. The weather was exceedingly calm, and the wind East Sotti.h-Eas! at the time ; the day intensely sul frv. Who tyill explain it? What says Miriam? ■Lt’ -iit.i {(rti.) Intelligencer, .June 28. Kkward Offered to Jkvjsstobs.—The New Bed* ford merchants who are interested in the whale oil, offer four thousand live hundred dollars to inventors for the best stand and portable hand lamps designed for using whale oil. The lamps must be submitted before the 30th rtf August next, and the invention be secured by letters pa tent. At Liviugston's Manor, N. Y., recently, au old gentleman of seventy-five years, named Lerow, married a young and beautiful damsel of eighteen summers, named McLeland, residing near Hudson. The old gentleman’s consideration ia pure love and devotion , the vouug lady’s was the settle ment upon her of one hundred thousand dollars >n her own right bv the happy groom. VtOMPOUM) remedy, in which we have labored to produce tlie most effectual Alterative that can be made, it. is a concentrated extract of Para Sarsaparilla, so combined with other substances of still greater alterative powers as to afford an effective antidote for tbe diseases Sarsaparilla is re puted to cure. It is believed that such-a remedy is wanted by those who suffer from Strumous complaints, aud that one which will accomplish their cure must prove of immense ser vice to this large class of our afflicted follow ciiltens. How completely this compound will do it, has been proven by ex neriinent on many of tbe worst cases to be found of the fal lowing complaints ; Scrofula and Scrofulous Uomp'aint? Eruptions and Erup tive Diseases, Ulcers, Pimples, Blotches, Tumors, Salt Kheum, Scald Heads, Syphilis ai.d Syphilitic Affections; Mer curial Disease, Dropsy, Neuralgia, or Tic Dolonrcux. Debil ity. This compound will he found a great promoter of health, when taken In the spring, to expel t he foul humors which fes ter in the htood at that season of the year By the timelyex i pulsion of them, many rankling disorders are nipped in the uud. Multitudes can, bv the aid of this remedy, spare them selves from the endurance of foul eruptions and ulcerous | sores, through which the system will strive to rid itseif of cor ruptions. K> and where no particular disorder is telt, people enjoy better health, and live longer, for cleansing the blood.''Keep tbe blood healthy, and all ts well : but with this pabulum of life disordered, there cat he no lasting health. Sooner or l iter something must go wrong, ana th? great machinery cf life is disordered oroverthrowr., barsaparUla has, aud deserves'much, the reputation of ac complishing these ends. But the world has been egregiously deceived hv preparations of it, partly because tbe drug alone has not all the virtue that Is claimed for it, but more because many preparations, pretending to lie concentrated extract.; of t it. contain but little of the virtue of Sarsaparilla o. anything * else.
