■she following dispatch has reached Indiana, and

I’, p. I,i msdkn, ot Nf.w Orleans.— lt was stated
in our despatches that Mr. F. P. Uumsden, of the
New Orleans P:ca>. ‘ne, with his family, were
among the lost by the accident to the Lady Elgin.
Mr. I.umsden was a native of North Carolina,
and at the time of Ins death was between fifty and
tiftv-tive years of age. He went to New Orleans
about thirty years ago, where he followed his ;
profession as a practical printer ; he subsequently j
formed a business copartnership with G, W. Ken- j
Jail, and established the New Orleans Picayune, \
which paper is recognised as one ol’ the leading
imrnals of the southern States. Mr. Luinsdeu’s 1
connection with the Pica-, or continued uninter
rupted from the dav of its establishment until his
decease ; the exceptions being short pleasure trips
into the ulterior of the country, and similar to that
or. which he met his untimely death. Mr. Lums
den had an amiable wife, and a son fourteen years |
of age, both of whom, it is feared, were with him j
at the time of his death, and shared the fate of the j
husbandand father. During the last few years, j
Mr. I.umsden’s participation in the direction “of the
Pi. i>rine has been somewhat limited, by a change ,
in the title of the firm and a re-arrangement of its !
executive department, the chief doty devolving on j
Jr. Holbrook-, its managing partner.
The following dispatch was sent bv Gen. Lane !
to Ibe seceders and bolters at Charleston :
“GO OUT!
JOE LANE.”
ihe people of Oregon, in six weeks afterwards,
seat the following dispatch through the ballot box:
“JOE LANE,
GO OUT!”
And so wili the people of the South sav at the ;
ballot box on the 6th day of November. ’
A Ski eoer Rkhcked in North Carolina.— Gen.
Thomas S. Ureen, one of the North Carolina se
ceders, and who, iu the Yancey convention at
Baltimore, put Joe Lane in nomination for Vice-
President, was beaten for the State Senate, at the
lab election, by Dr. Pitchford, a Douglas man, in
Warren county, which gave Buchanan some seven
hundred aud seventy majority.
Louisville (Ky.) Journal.
l‘>. Y. Martin.—We regret to learn that this gen
tleman is confined to his bed by sickness. In
v ‘tisi ptence of this, we are requested to state that
Mr. Martin will not be able to meet the appoint

THEIR EQUAL! !
We do not profess to have discovered some Roots “known
ouly to the Indians of South Amerha,” and acute for “all
diseases which the ttesh Is heirtn,” but we claim to present to
the public a truly valuable preparation, which every intelli
gent Physlelanin the country will approve ofas and recommend
Asa remedy for
INCIPIENT CONSUMPTION,
Weak Lungs, Indigestion, l) spepsia. Diseases of the Nervous
System, Paralysis. Piles, Diseases peculiar to Females, Debil
ity, and all cases requiring a Tonic, they are
UNSURPASSED !
For Sore Throat, so common among the Clergy’they are
truly valuable.
For the aged and infirm, or for persons of a weak constitu

speakers—for Book-Keepers, ‘Pallors, Seamstresses, Students.
Artist , and all persons leading a sedentary life, they will
prove truly beneficial.
Asa Beverage, they are wholesome, Innocent, and delicious,
to the taste. They produce all the e>hlliarating effects ot
Brandy or Wine, without intoxicating ; and are a valuable
re -icdy for persons addicted to excessive use of strou
drink, aud wish to refrain from it. They are pure and entire
ly free from the poisons contained In the adulterated Wines
and Liquors with which the country is flooded.
These Bitters not only CURE, but PREVENT Disease,
and should be used by ul- who live in a country where the
water is bad, or where Chills and Fevers are prevalent. Being
entirely Innocent and harmless, they maybe given freely to
Children and Infants with Impunity.
Physicians, Clergymen, and temperance advocates, as an
act of humanity, should assist in spreading these truly valu
able HITTERS over the land, and thereby essentially aid a
