FURTHER OF WALKER’S EXPEDITION. *
\Y • were this morning put in possession of still
farther intelligence of Walker’s expedition to
Honduras. It is furnished to us from an authori-
Uttr ,. < ,urce, and will, perhaps, help us to form an
opm ion of the probable fate of the party.
Yud tj r t of all, we are assured that the steamer
0r la wtiose report at Batabano, Cuba, we have
aheadv’ published, left Truxillo before our last
|rrv .[direct from that place The news brought
hr he” therefore, that Walker's party had already,
id furious conflicts with the natives, been reduced
to a remnant of iweuty-five men, is believed to be
incurred It comes to us, indeed, ouiy as a re
p >rt which had reached the town, where naturally
au v report of the kind would be very much raag
* l'i 'in a careful comparison of the date, we are
convinced that the very latest news of the party is
of Similar, the 20th ultimo, on which day two of
Walk r’s officers left the main land for Ruatan
Land, for provisions. They r ime over in a
targe and experienced rough weather, but did
col reach the island till the 211th, and then were
c.iunoiled to land on au uninhabited shore, whence
thev made their way to Fori McDonald the next
day.
These officers left Walker and his party, Sun
day, the 20th, at a place called Limas, abandoned
mahogany works, on a river of the same name,
some thin v or forty miles from Truxillo, in the di
rection of Cape tiracias. Up to this time the
loss.'s had been only two—private Pomeroy,killed,
as before stated, in an engagement with the ene
my, and private Coleman, who fell a victim to the
prevailing fever of the country.
In the engagement above mentioned, there were
also live wounded, as above stated —Major iioof,
of Virginia, private Janies J. Hogg, of this city,
and private |Samuel Coffin, ot Natchez. The names
of the other two have not reached us.
The remaining seventv-six were ail in excellent
health, and amply provided with arms and ammu
nition. Each man had a Mime musket, a hundred
rounds, and many of them the latest improved re
volvers. Ofclotiiing, thev had only one suit each,
bat that good. Tents, blankets, or other camp
equipage, they had none. The nights, however,
in that country, at this season of the year, are not
uncomfortably cold. They would absolutely stand
in need of them only in case of rain. It being
a cattle raising country, they bad, of course, an
abundance of good fresh beef. They were only
in want of vegetables, for which the party men
tionedjliad been sent to the neighboring island.
Soon after the news reached Fort McDonald, a
small vessel was chartered by Walker’s friends
there, to proceed to the mainland with these pro
visions, additional clothing, and other assistance.
As to the report brought by the Osceola, that the
party was seeking a return to the Islands, we are
assured it has no foundation in fact. It is believ
ed by onr informant that they would either proceed
down the coast to Cape Gracais, to embark for
some port in Nicaragua, or strike directly across
the country, with the same destination in view.
Their next movement would be to a Carib village,
about twenty miles from Limas, where signals
were to be erected as guides for the returning of
ficers.
In addition to the above, we learn that there is
no probability of the party beiug further pursued
in that direction by the natives. Fears, however,
were entertained of being further molested by the
ISritish man-of-war. Capt. Salmon openlv de
clared it to be bis intention to get possession of
Walter, if be could, llut it is not probable be
would send bis marines, with which he was not
very abundantly supplied, far inland.
As 1 1 the probability ot reinforcements, we only
know that a party of some thirty-live left this city
on the 31st for Truxilio direct. They will there
icm find out the actual state of thiugs, and proba
bly attempt to reach their friends on the lower
coast. But it is doubtful if they will be able to
make a landing. Captain Salmon says he will pre
vent it, if possible.
Another party of fifty is now assembled incur
city and nearly ready to sail; but we understand
that their movements are not ret definitely ar
ranged.
A I'skvpl Aeticlb.—A new and useful article,
