Col. Aiken and Immigration.
A GERMAN VIEW OF THE QUESTION.
Col. D. Wyatt Aiken has proved by hts
speech which he delivered before the Immi
gration, Mechaueical and Agricultural
Convention, that in six years since the
close of the civil war, in which time much
j could have been learned and much accom-
I pllshcd to restore the conquered and im
poverished South to its former posperity,
b hag not learned the least thing. A
genuine “slavocrat,” who sees in the wealth
ofisingle Individual the prosperity of his
country, he overlooks all facts, overlooks
the cities of the North and West, which
have been made great and prosperous prin
i cipally through German industry and Ger
man/red labor. Only through slavery, he
thinks, could a country become wealthy,
| ud as he seems to know at least this
much, that the German cannot be governed
by the whip, he does not speak in favorable
terms of them, but rather spies, in Koop
tnanschaap and his. Chinese, the Messiah
>nd the Apostles of the South- Why not ?
Has not even the negro become so insoleut
*s to demand money for his work every
jatarday, while “Johnny” is satisfied with
sash meat and rice? Besides, “Johnny”
don’t know much about social equality,
, while the German already knows in the old
Fatherland that a residence of five years in
America makes him a citizen of the same;
wd he also knows that the negroes have
I likewise been made voters by the Fifteenth
Amendment. And shall German immi
grants enjoy social equality with gentle
men? Gentlemen are only the “ Slave
Pachas,” who do nothing bnt issue orders
»t the most. Gentlemen are, perhaps, the
‘•arons, dukes, princes, kings and Empe
wrs of Europe, and they are so stupid as
wt to come over here to enjoy the friend
ship of Colonel Aiken. The Immigrants
who have acquired wealth by the labor of
their hands, and through it have made tfiis
country great, are not gentlemen ! God be
praised that the ranks of such lights are
thinning, and that better ideas are already
"ndlng expression. People of that class
should be stuffed after their death, and be
placed in a glass case as objects of curiosity
and remembrance.
Some sensible person has given publicity
to the following, which is certainly beau
tiful :
Three things to love—Conrage, gentle
ne*s and affectioo.
Three things to hate—Cruelty, arrogance
»n<l ingratitude.
Three things to delight in—Beauty, frank
ness and freedom.
Three things to wish for—Health, friends
and a cheerful spirit.
Three things to avoid—ldleness, loquaci
ty and flippant jesting.
Three things to pray for—Faith, peace
and purity of heart.
Three things to contend for—Honor,
country and friends.
Three things to govern—Temper, tongue
and conduct.
Three things to think about—Life, death
and eternity.
Miss Anthony, in her Revolution, makes
the astounding proposition to women, to
charge their husbands, and make them pay
greenbacks for each baby born. She sensi
bly establishes the price at SIOO for girl
■'abies, and 200 for boys, with twins ami
triplets higher, iu proportion to the labor
Performed, and all this to be C. O. D.
’’ell, Susan, lead off yourself, and see if
’hey will follow your example. Any small
°nes for ten cents ?
Who can doubt the benefit of advertising
~' , ‘ r reading the following: “ A family in
Florida lost their little boy, and they ad
vertised for him In tire daily paper. That
'ery afternoon an alligator crawled up out
°* thc swamp and died on the front door
step. In his stomach were found a hand
*ui ot red hair, some bone buttons, a glass
"toy, a brass-barreled pistol, a Bunday
school book, and a pair of check pants.
1 he advertisement did it.”

Koskoo Cure3 Scrofula in its Worst Forms.
From A. W. Mills, a prominent and well
known Merchant of Norfolk, Va.:
No. II Main street, Norfolk, Va., September 16,1869.
Dr. Lawrence—Dear Sir: Your Koskoo
has worked wonders in ray family. My daugh
ter has been a sufferer from Scrofula since
childhood. She lost thirty-one pieces of bone
from her ankle, several trom her arm, besides
having ulcers in several parts of the body.—
Whilst in this condition she commenced taking
your Koskoo— it acted like a charm on her j un
der its use the ulcers gradually heated, and her
general health greatly improved. It certainly
saved her much suffering, and perhaps her life.
08 k°° a specific for all scrofulous
affections. Yonr Koskoo also cured my wife
of dyspepsia, from which she suffered greatly.
She is nour in better health than she has been in
live years.
With the highest regards,
I am gratefully yours, &c.,
A. W. MILLS.
Koskoo is endorsed by the best physicians

Dr.-I.J. Lawrence— Dear Sir: I have used
your Concentrated Fluid Extract of Koskoo in

to be a powerful Liver lnvigorator, Blood Pu

tar Liver, Scrofulous, Syphilitic and Nervous

in fact, in almost every variety of Chronic
Diseases its use is indicated. Hoping you

without benefit. 1 believe, in all sincerity, that
your Koskoo is an infallible remedy for the
disease from which he has suffered, and, so far
as I can learn, has never failed. If you only
knew the immense amount of suffering that be
has undergone, then you couid conceive the
