It is said that a New York coroner is
preparing a book telling ail about what to
do in case of a kerosene explosion. Itdon’t
need a book to tell what to do. All that is
necessary is to send your address to an
undertaker just before you light a fire with
kerosene, and then let nature take its
course. It’s all foolishness to buy a book
about it, as it is perfectly evident all the
coroner wauls is to get his name before the
kerosene-buruing public.—A. Y. Democrat.
Under the Bishop of London, the practice
of appointing deaconesses of the Episcopal
Church has been revived. The duties con
nected with the office are attendance upon
the sick and needy, whose cases are to be
reported to Church authorities, aud the
reading of the Scriptures to the ignorant.
A lady, who has been appointed deaconess,

People afflicted with heart disease, if
they know it, ought to be careful about

gentlemen, as usual, for the fun of the
shock. One of the ladies falling into the
arms of another, was taken home dying.—
She soon expired. A post mortem exami
nation disclosed a cancer in the region of
the heart, which had extensively implicat
ed the ligaments, destroying them in part.
The shock, which had been sufficient to
rupture another one, was fatal.
There is a tree planted in the Capitol

two brauches, the whole in shape like a

of the forest. Its bark is rusty, crisp, and
curly like a nigger’s wool. This tree is a
wonderful production of the forest never
theless. It was brought to Richmond
from Montana Territory, and in the Sum
mer time throws out leaves of extraordina
ry size, and bears a fruit not unlike an egg
in shape, but as large almosl as a man’s
head. It is wonderfully oderiferous, and
throws a sweet perfume for a large space
