NEWS FROM KENTUCKY AND TENNESSEE.
BUELL SUPERSEDED BY ROSENBRANZ.
Chattanooga, Nov. I.—The Louisville Journal
i of the iTth says a dispatch from Washington an
nounces-that General Bueii has been superseded
in the command of the Federal army in Kentucky
by General Rosencrant:, and sirs it is verv unfor
, tunate at this juncture, when everything is in
readiness to relieve Nashville, us the charge will
necessarily delay movements towards Tennessee.
The Journal acknowledges that Buell has lost the
confidence of the army and people.
Morgan, *ho retreated from Cumberland Gap,
| has also been relieved.
From articles in the Journal, it does not appear
; that Buell’s mam army had started towards Nash
j ville, but hts cavalry were at Bowling Green,

LATER FOREIGN NEWS.
Mobile, Ala., Nov. 4th.— The following 13 a
special dispatch to the Mobile Tribune :
Grenada, Miss., Nov. 3—The Memphis, Tenn.
Bulletin, of Nov. Ist, has been received here. It
says tnat the Liverpool Journal, of Oct. 21 at, says
that Gladstone's speech has convinced nearly
everybody that Lord Palmerston, who is at the
bead of the Government, is about to recognize the
Southern Confederacy.
It is said that a memorial, signed by 21 mem
bers of the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce,
is to be presented to that body urging them to
send a deputation to the Ministers, requesting
Her Majesty’s advisers to recommend the recogni
tion of the Confederate States at once ; and that
it is the opinion of the memorialists that there is
no cause for further delay.
The Chancellor of the Exchequer had emphati
cally announced in public that Jeff. Davis had
not only created a large army and a small navy,
but, also, a new nation.
i Gladstone avoids active intervention. Packing
| ington asserts that tbe time has arrived when
! Her Majesty's Government, ia conjunction with
, other Governments, ought to offer mediation on
' American affairs on the bas's of separation be
tween the contending parties, with the under
! standing that the non success of such nn effort
will be followed by tbe immediate of
| the Confederate Stales.
j Equally strong views have been expressed by
I several prominent men.
I The Liverpool Fost, of tbe 11th, says that two
j of the highest class houses in that city have re
i ceived telegrams from headquarters at London
that the British and French Governments have
: lost no time in announcing that they were re
solved on the policy of perfect neutrality.
Army movements in the North are unimpor
tant.
Thirty persons have been ordered to leave
Memphis on account of attacks by guer.ila9 on
steamboats on the Mississippi river.
The above speculations may or may not be
correct. At all events, it is bttter for the South
ern people to act as though they were not.—Eds.

LATER FROM VIRGINIA AND THE NORTH.
Richmond, Ya., Nov. sth.— There is nothing of
importance from Northern Virginia.

publican candidate for Governor of New York,
made a flaming speecn in favor of the subjugation
of the-Bnuth.

in America would, before long, come to an end ,
but it must be admitted to be yet under.ded, ana.

said that the independence of the Southern States
had been established.

destroyed property to the amonnt of about ha.f
a million of dollars.
The buildings burned were all the property of
Rev, W. H. Harison, who, we understand, had H
bui litt.e insurance on them.'They were occupied H
as follows ; Col. M. P. Stovall’s Cotton Ware- ■
house. Mr. Edmondston’s Produce astore. and H
Kritz A Bird's stables. I
The loss, as near as could be ascertained th.s I
morning, was as follows ; H
Col. Stoval.’s Warehouse, in which were stored
about 4,500 bales o r cotton under the sheds.
This, with about 1,500 bales in the adjoining
buildings, was nearly all destroyed. It belonged
to various parties whose names we have not vet
been able to ascertain. We presume that it was
all insured. In this stock were a few hundred
bales of Sea Island coiton, a few bales of which
only have been saved.
Mr. Edmonston’s Produce Store, in which were
stored flour, sugar, suit, osnaburgs, Ac. Some of
these articles were saTed—those, principaiiv,
which were in the front part of the building,
About 50 hogsheads of sugar, 25 sacks of North
Carolina salt, a few sacks of flour, and other ar«
tides of Produce were burned, and much of the
balance of the stock badly damaged by fire and
water,
Kritz A Bird's Stables, on Eilis street, opposite
Concert Hal’. The horses and mules were ai’
saved, but a few rockaways and buggies were des
stroked.
The total loss.is estimated at about $500,' 1
including the buildings, and this loss is pirettv '
much covered by insurance, which is scattered
among several offices, so that the loss will not *
fall heavily upon any one of them.
The fire was, doubtiess, the work of an incens
diary. The door of Mr. Edmonston’s stcre was
seen ajar about a quarter before 11 o’olock P. M.,
and notice of this Sact was sent to one of h:s
clerks, who, on repairing to the store, we under
stand, discovered the fire bursting forth. The
firemen were promptly on the spot, and every
effort was made to save the property, but in v.i
the devouring element seemed bent on completing
the work of destruction and this morning the
tottering wails and smouldering ruins attest how
successfully it effected its work. Fortunately, the
night was calm, otherwise the destruction of
property would have been tar greater.
No clue has yet been discovered to the perpe«
tratnrs of this crime; but our active and vigiiau;
police will, doubtless, use every exertion to hr.og
idem to justice.
