If You Want a Kiss, Take It.
There’s a Jolly saxon proverb,
That Is pretty much like this,
That a man is naif in heaven
When he has a woman's kiss;
But there’s danger in delaying—
And the sweetness may forsake it;
Bo I tell you, bashful lover,
If you want a kiss, why, take it.
Never let another fellow
< Steal a march on you in this ;
Never let a laughing maiden
Seeyou.spoiling for a kl-s;
There’s a royal way to kissing,
And jolly ones who make it
Have a motto that is winning—
If you want a kiss, why, take it.
Any fool can face a cannon ;
Anybody wear's crown,
But a man must win a.woman,
* If he’d have her for his.own ;
Would you have the golden apple,
You must find the tiee and shako if,
If the thing is worth the having,
And want a k’ss, why, take it.
Who would hum upon a desert,
With a forest smiling by ?
Who would give his sunny summer
For a black and wintry sky ?
Oh! I tell you there is magic.
And you cannot, cannot break it ;
For the sweetest part of loving
Is to want a kiss, and take it.
Arrest op Murderers.— Our readers will
recollect that a little more than two years since
a man named John Halford was murdered in
cold blood by four negroes on a rice plantation
about five miles from the city.
The parties implicated having evaded arrest
until recently, Governor Jenkins issued a pro l
clamation offering a reward for their apprehen- ,
Bion. Last week one Os the party named Don
nell McDonnell was arrested by officer Barthel- j
mess on a plantation near the city. On Satnr- ,
day afternoon Alfred Stafford, alias Alfred ,
Irvin, was arrested in the market by Policemen (
Ling and Searcy and lodged in jail. Smart ,
Blake, who fired the first shot, is still at large. ,
and the other one of the party died some 1
twelve months since. —* Savannah Advertiser , 3 d. ,

»y A YOUNG LADY RETURNING TO HER
country home, after a sojourn of a few months in the
City, was hardly recognized by her friends. In place of a
coarse, rustic, flushed face, she had a soft ruby complexion
Os almost marble smoothness, and instead of twenty-three
she really appeared but Eighteen. Upon inquiry as to
the cause of so great a change, she plainly told them that
she used tbtf CIRCASSIAN BALJI, and considered it an
invalu ble acquisition to any Lady’s toilet. By its use
any Lady or Gentleman can improve their personal ap
pearance an hundred fold. It is simple in its combina
tion, as Nature herself is simple, yet unsurpassed in its
eflicacy in drawing impurities from, also healing, cleans

direct action on the cuticle it draws from it all its impu

THE CHINGARORA
ANTI NERVOUS
SMOKING TOBACCO I
r THE CHINGARORA TOBACCO glows from
the rich soil of the “ ORIENT;” and is possessed of
a peculiar delicious flavor entirely unknown to tile
tobaccos of all other clime's. Eut its unprecedented
popularity has sprung from the faet of the entire ab
sence of that deadly poison Nicotin, which permeates
every other tobacco, and which is the one and sole
cause of the distressing nervous diseases, dyspeps’a,
Ac., which most invariably, sooner of later, follow"
the indulgence of the pipe and cigar. At the recent
analyzatiop erf tobacco* from all parts of the world,
at the Academy of Sciences, in Paris, the renowned
Chemist, M. Lamaureaux, declared that While Euro
pean and American tobacco contained fully eight per
cent, and the purest Havana tobacco from two to five
per cent,of Nicotin, the CHINGARORA did not con
tain one discoverable-particle of that deadly ooison, a
drop of which, extracted, prill destroy life.
Our agent at Bombay has shipped us large quanti
ties of the CHINGARORA during the past two
years, and although we have been pressed to supply
the demand for this delicious luxury to the veteran
smoker, yet we are now prepared to offer it in un
limited quantities, at a price much lower than some
American tobacco of a Tar inierior quality.
A connoiseur has but to smoke the American to
bacco and cigars, which are invariably chemically
flavored, to be disgusted with the medicinal taste
which leaves a nauseous, unhealthy coating in the
mouth, and in time seldom fails to shatter the nervous
system.
’The natives of the “ORIENT” smoke the CHIN
GARORA from mom till night, from youth to age,
and are happily unconscious of the wild, distressing
fire which courses through the veins of the inhaler of
the fumes of tobacco-containing Nicotin.
We invite every lover of the weed to try the CHIN
GARORA, and guarantee unprecedented pleasure in
its delicious flavor. Sold everywhere.

GRAND CHARITABLE
PRESENTATION
CONCERT!
IN AID OF THE
Southern Orphan’s Association.
Incorporated by the Legislature of Virginia,
January 2d, 1867.
TO BE GIVEN IN BALTIMORE,
Juc 17, 1867.
o
THE PROFITS OF THIS CONCERT WILL BE
GIVEN TO THE SOUTHERN ORPHANS’
ASSOCIATION.
• The officers of the Southern Orphans’ Associa
tion for the maintenance and education of the desti
tute orphans of deceased Southern soldiers and sailors,
earnestly solicit the sympathy and eo-operati cm in our
Grand Presentation Concert, of all who desire to see
the‘Horae and School’ enabled to receive and care
for all needy ones who seek its shelter and protection.
It is the design of this Association to erect a
“ Home and School ” for the orphans of the South,
both male and female, on an extensive scale, in
the city of Richmond, Va. As an inducement to
have the building located there the Common Council
of that city have guaranteed ten acres of land, in an
elevated and healthful location, and will increase the
quantity of land if needed.
It Is with a confident hope in a favorable response
to this appeal to a public which has never yet failed to
sustain a charitable institution, that we have entered
into an arrangement to organize a Grand Mutual Pre
sentation Concert for its benefit, and earnestly solicit
the kindly aid and patronage of tho public, to ensure
its succees.
It may seem unnecessary to add a single wor 4 to
the above, but the calls upon the Institution have
been so numerous and pressing, and the struggle
through which it is now passing to widen the circle of
its charities, is of such art rduous nature that the man
agement cannot too strongly urge upon, the humane
and sympathetic everywhere, an active participation
in this additional attempt to alleviate the rad condition
of great numbers of helpless children, tendered thus
by the terribTe war through which we have passed.—
And assuredly, whatever may have befcn the tc.alive
political views of ladies ?nd gentlemen heretofore,
all must agree that the children referred to could not,
by any possibility, have had any agency in bringing
about their present deplorable andLdestitute condition,
and are suitable objects for the charity of all persons
of whatever shade of political opinion. The “ Home
and School” which they now, more particularly seek
to establish and endow, will be of incalcula le benefit
by providing not only food and raiment, but likewise
solid and thorough education lor these helpless ones,
thus qualifying them for future usefulness to society at
large, in order that this appeal may be effectual in en
listing the active interest and co-operation of all clas
ses of persons everywhere, we have concluded to
issue for the
