the WEEKLY CONSTITUTIONALIST- Fate. by WM. P. BOVDINOT. There is a phantom ever haunting All the living things or ear tn Like a spectre dark, attending Every mortal from his birtn , And its likeness is a demon’*. Horrible with mocking mirth- And it never sleeps nor tires, Never terns away it* eye, Which is always fixed and greedy, iiazinc at us ardently t . When a?night we sleep ft watcheth our bedside standing by. L Wh^Te fc new.^rnfnfrn d t‘siecpe. U S’d"he n dmamlng babe it creeps. tv ~ this still unknown companion us through our flying years 1 A £ ?t silly pleasures, F A it mocks our useless tears. n <> on ! And > we'shudder sTt the sinking Os our onward sun so soon, A« we hiiWO to that region A WMehis lighted by no moon. Whither • pleads the weary traveler, Whither » whither do we fly i But the night now o’er him closing, Shutt the scene from human eye ; Clear “ heard the faint voice pleading- Never, never the reply 1 Few have ever seen this spectre, Caught its desolating eye ; When the dews of life’s fresh morning Stir the heart with feelings high, And the evening and the darkness Beemeth never to be mgb. But when love, nor fame, nor pleasure, Warm the heart to dim the sight; When at last the mental vision Pierceth through the mental night, Then we know the dark attendant Os our feeble, failing flight. And we feel hie icy fingers Tracing wrinkles on the brow, While his breath, so cold and deadly, Turns the raven hair to snow, As we hobble on our journey, With a stumbling step and slow. Just behind us all it moveth, With a still and stealthy tread, As it followed unseen millions, Who once lived like us, ’tis said; As we journey to that country Whither they have darkly fled. On the footsteps of each mortal, From his first to latest date ; When hejovs, or loves, or sorrows, Wretched, happy, humble, great, Mocking glides this solemn phantom I Child of clay, it is thy Fate I Like the helpless clouds of heaven, Borne upon the unseen wind, Leaving naught that telleth after. Token, sign or trace behind ; Swiftly thus on Fate’s broad pinions Fly the millions of mankind. Waiting for the May. This fine poem of the Irish poet Clarence Mangan properly fits this season of 1868 : Ab I my heart is weary wailing, Waiting for the May- Waiting for the pleasant rambles Where the fragrant hawthorne brambles, With the woodbine alternating, Scent the dewy way. Ah I my heart is weary waiting, Waiting for the May. Ah ’ my heart is sick with longing, Longing for the May— Longing to escape from study, To the fair young face and ruddy, And the thousand charms belonging To the summer’s day. Ah I my heart is sick with longing, Longing for the May. Ah ! my heart is sore with sighing, Sighing for the May— Bighine for their sure returning When the summer beams are burning— Hopes and flowers that dead or dying, All the winter lay. Ah ! my heart is sore with sighing/ Sighing for the May. Ah ! my heart is pained with throbbing, Throbbing for the May- Throbbing for the seaside billows, Or the water-wooing willows, Where in laughing or in sobbing Glide the streams away I Ah I my heart is pained with throbbing, Throbbing for the May. Waiting, sad, dejected, weary, Waiting for the May. Spring goes by with wasted warnings— Moonlit evenings, sunbi ight mornings— Bummer comes, yet dark and dreary Life still ebbs away— Man is ever weary, weary, Waiting for the May. Frightful Prophecies Concerning the End of AU Things Are made by religious enthusiasts; and, on the other hand, philosophers insist that the centre of the Earth is a mass of fire—that the poles of the Earth will one day be at the Eqaator, and that the Sun is gradually fading ! Talk like this is very terrible; but, pending such whole sale calamities, it will be as well for each member of so ciety to take care of his or her health, and leave the rest to Providence. The end comes prematurely to all who neglect the pre servation of that inestimable blessing. Suffer liver dis ease, dyspepsia, chronic constipation or any other ail ment to take its course unchecked, and it will assuredly shorten life. It cannot be said that the means of pro tecting the system against the predisposing causes of disease are withheld. The constitutions and physique of the least robust may be so strengthened and fortified by * course of HOSTETTER’S STOMACH BITTERS as to render them all but invulnerable, not only to the attacks of epidemic disorders, hut also to the ordinary complaints which prevail in all countries and at all sea sons. If the immense importance of Protective Medica tion were universally understood, this incomparable vegetable antidote, which is already the most popular tonic in the world, would everywhere be classed among the staples of life, and no family would dare to be with out it. The time may arrive when this will be the case, for every year adds hundreds of thousands to the list of those who use it, myl-eod*ctls To Artists and Pupils* SUPPLY of PASTELS, just received by WM. DeLACEE, OCULIST AND AURIST, PHYSICIAN AND SURGEON, ORMERLY of Europe, late of the West Indies, will practice the coming season. Located October 17th, 1867, IN AUGUSTA, GA„ At the AUGUSTA HOTEL, Ladies’ Entrance, Where he can be consulted upon all Diseases of the EYE, EAR, CANCER, CANCEROUS TUMORS, and CHRONIC COMPLAINTS. ——o— — CANCER, OF CURABLE CLASS, AND DIATHESIS, WILL BE TAKEN OUT, ROOT AND BRANCH, IN SEVEN TO TWENTY-ONE DAYS, WITHOUT SURGERY, BY THE CELEBRATED FRENCH PASTES AND INTERNAL REMEDIES, Used in the French Hospitals for the past forty years. One application is all that is usually necessary, even IN FOUL EATING CANCER OF THE FACE, to complete an ENTIRE AND PERMANET CURE. Under this treatment the cancer DROPS OUT WHOLE the seventh to the twenty -first day. The parts quickly heal, with a simple dressing of lard. o All who suffer with this much dreaded disease, by calling at Dr. DkLaceb’s office, will be referred with pleasure to many persons residing in this city and vicinity, who have suffered with Cancer for years, who have had their Cancers taken out in the above stated time and now are healed of Cancer and (re stored to health. o DR. DeLACEE would have published the above facts last October, when he first located here, but preferred to furnish abundant proof from persons re siding here, and well known in this community, who have been cured, and thereby have the above facts go before this community and the suffering AS FACTS, and NOT BOLD ASSERTIONS. • o THE REMEDIES ARE HARMLESS TO HEALTHY FLESH. NO CASES RECEIVED UNDER TREATMENT UNLESS CURABLE. REMARKABLE CURE OF CANCER ON THE FACE OF FOURTEEN YEARS’ STANDING. This will certify that I have suffered with cancer on my face for the past fourteen years. It has re sisted all treatment, until I applied to Dr. L. DeLacee, at the Augusta Hotel, the 10th day of last month. He took the cancer out, roots and all, the Bth day, by medicines. It healed of its own accord, and now I am entirely cured of cancer, and able to say to all that may be afflicted with this most terrible disease that, if you apply in time, while your case is curable, you will be cured. The Doctor has cured others in the same time, some that I am acquainted with, who live in this city. lam sixty years of age, and have resided in Augusta four years Mbs. F. PRICE. Augusta, Ga., January 2,1868. MORE EXTRAORDINARY CURES. Augusta, Ga., November 21, 1867. This will certify that I have been afflicted with can cer in the root of my mouth. It was so painful that I could not rest night or day. It was with great diffi culty that I could get food enough by it to support life. It resisted all medical treatment, and finally eat entirely through the roof of my mouth into my nose. I applied to Dr. Ds Laobb just four weeks ago to dav, and am now able to announce, for the benefit of those that may be suffering from this terrible disease that I am entirely cured of cancer, and restored to perfect health, and am as well as I was before being afflicted. Miss Beulah Guillard. STILL ANOTHER CITIZEN OF AUGUSTA CURED OF EATING CANCER OF SEVEN YEARS’ STANDING. I certify to the facts in my case for the benefit of those that are afflicted with cancer. I have suffered with eating cancer upon my face and nose for the past seven years. I was prostrated in general health and as weak as a child, and was unable to walk to see the doctor; my son took me in a carriage. My cancer at that time was eating away and spreading faster every day. I applied to Dr. DbLacbb, at the Augusta Hotel, four weeks ago last Saturday, and now I am healed of cancer, restored to health and strength and have an excellent appetite, and am gaining more strength daily. I cannot express my gratitude for my deliver ance. My cancer was taken out by one application, and dropped out the seventh day. lam sixty-seven years of age, and have been a resident of Augusta nineteen years, and my health is as good now as it was twenty years ago. Hundreds of the citizens of Augusta will attest to the above. Mrs. Margarbt DuVall. Augusta, Ga., January 20th, 1868. ANOTHER REMARKABLE CURE OF DEAF- NESS AND ULCERATION OR DISCHARGE FROM THE EARS. This is to certify that my little daughter, aged 13 years, who has been suffering from deafness and dis charge from the ears, from cold contracted in infancy, has completely recovered her hearing and has been en tirely relieved from all symptoms of disease under Dr. DbLacbb’b treatment, without any painful sur gical operation, after all other treatment had failed to give relief. Burley’s Sarsaparilla. o Os all the medicines that have been discovered dui ing the present age for the “ thousand ills that flesh is heir to,” none equal this wonderfu preparation. Only ten years have elapsed since the discoverer (who spent a decade in studying experiments, and prefecting it) first introduced it to the public, and it is already re cognized by the most eminent physicians in all parts of the country, to be the most surprising and effective remedy for certain diseases of which they have any knowledge. All other Compounds or Syrups of this root have hitherto failed to command the sanction of the Facul ty, because on being tested, they have been found to contain noxious ingredients, which neutralize the good effects of the Sarsaparilla, and oftentimes injure the health of the patient. It is not so with HURLEY’S preparation. This is the pure and genuine extract of the root, and and will, on trial, be found to effect a certain and per fect cure of the following complaints and diseases: Affections of the Bones, Habitual Costiveness Debility, Diseases of the Kidneys, Dyspep sia, Erysepilas, Female Irregulari- Hies, Fistula, all Skin Diseases, Liver Complaint, Indiges tion, Piles, Pulmonary Diseases. Syphilis, Scrofula or King's Evil. HURLEY’S_AGUE TONIC. PERFECTLY RELIABLE. The only remedy for Chills and Fever or A tie and Fever that is or can be depended upon is Hurley’s Ague Tonic. There have been thousands cured by using it who had tried the usual remedies without benefit; but in no case haS Hurley’s Ague Tonic failed to effect a cure. All who have used it cheerfully tell their afflicted friends ot it,as a sure and certain cure for chills and fever. Any one suffering from the chills would consult their own interest by sending to a drug store and buying a bottle. It is pleasant to take, compared with others, and will be certain to cure all cases of fever and ague or chills and fever. Use in the future only SEABROOK’S, a combina tion quite up with the advancement of the age.— Pleasant to take, harmless in its action, efficient and reliable in all cases. Invaluable in the following diseases : Summer Complaint, Irreg ularities of the Bowels, Restiveness, Teeth ing, &c. Gives health to the child and rest to the mother. We could furnish any quantity of certificates bear ing evidences of its superior qualities, but prefer that our medicine should stand on its own merits, which it will do upon trial. We have heard some to whom we have sold it, say they would not take ten thousand dollars for the benefit received from its use; and others, that it would not only do all that you claim for it, but more. You will please send us a supply immediately, and oblige, Yours, respectfully, J. A. BUTTS A CO. Extract of a Letter from, Rev. S. Gardner,Atapulgus Ga. For all derangements of the Liver, for Dyspepsia, Chronic Diarrhoea, Piles, &c., DR. SIMMONS’ REG ULATOR has no superior. It acts on the Liver without debilitating the system, and without any of the evil effects of mercury. I have tried it thorugnly, and speak what I know. •C. A. SIMMONS, General Agent, Barnesville, Ga.
