Wo are requested by Judge Coleman to call Uie utteutiou ut the community to the ap pointment of Rev. Spencer J. McMorris to preach iu Powell's Hall, next Subbath, moi-aing and evening. Wo do so, most cheerfully though dis senting to to code from the sentiments and doctrine proposed to be inculcated. In the full conviction that an open liiWe, ha s nothing to rear from all the controversialists in Christendom, we have evit believed in the ut most latitude of discussion upon all subjects. The reverse of this rule wilt result in bigotry and Its close concomitant persecution—and every onu knows that to attempt by force to suppress any creed even though it be kcrtxt/, is the surest method of .imparting new vitality to Us existence. With '.he young and impressible however, the ■safe rule is to shun disputations upen contro verted points. wl*iell liny have uot carefully «*- omitted, and are uot prepared either to assail or defend. There is much connected with infideli ty, universal salvation, and other dogmas of mans invention, which is attractive to human nature in its inborn depravity, as offering excuse for the gratification of sensual apindites H-nce toe young should beware how they wander Irom the faith of their fathers, and entertain doctrines either founded upon garbled or isolated pas sages of scripture, or else based upon an utter denial of their' authenticity. Still, as before remarked we offer n o opposition to the prcqiosed exercises on next Sabbath, find freely extend the use of our own columns for the publication of the of Mr. Me Morris. Since penning the above, a ‘-Sinner" essays to teach morals ami religion to the followers ot the cross, and quotes scripture at a famous rate but to little purpose, to show that orthodox* church es should be tendered to the expounder? of a doctrine, whichfobs Jehovah of his greatest at tribute, justice, by meting out the same salvation to the profligate, that is vouchsafed the devout ar.d pious. We are at a loss to conceive why such a creed should need defenders, temples, or champions, where not u ripple disturbs the ocean es eternity, and all is peace and security hereafter, alike to the virtuous, and the crimson dyed felon and criminal. Such a faith would be consoling indeed, if it could abide the dread fa-deal of dissolving nature, and withstand the swellings of Jordan. But alas, it may bo termed a sunshine, holy day religiou, which adversity will mocl; at, be cause it is not founded upon a rock, even that iorncr stone, elect, precious, and w hich fadeth uot away. ••Sinner” is a good citizen nnd most excellent 'man, and we trust in due season will see the fal lacy and utter insufficiency of.the opinions he would inculcate, If you ga> into a store and find the proprietor lying on the counter asleep, you may bet your bools he don t advertise. t*«3few #a< oil! privilege last Sabbath. toaUenddivioeaerviee i the new and elegant edifice, wffieh has risen idle: magic from the ashes of the former structure. Anew bull wi%,ifs silvery tones seatmoaed the faitbjpl flock ea? Tong scnttgi'ed, to their hew sanctuary, and we could well enter into and appreciate the swelling emotions ot the pastor, and the people of God, at this consummation of their labors and earnest prayers. The pulpit was filled by Rev. Mr. Armstrong of Eufanla. the burden of wbos> discourse, was a sketch.of the life and character of the apostle Paul, with ap appropriate application to big auditory, of the devotion.zeal anil eminent piety and self denial of this most learned and eloquent of Christs followers. The reverend gentleman showed himself deep ly versed in biblical lore as well as with the eustoms, games and history of the ancient Greeks. He dwelt at length open Fanis comparison of the Christiana course to the celebrated Olym pic races, and graphically described the stadiia or lists, the amphilbeitre, and all the stirring 1 scenes incident to those games. As the contes tants pressed onward with eyes fastened Opon the goal, where hung the wreath of laurel and mystle, and the crown of the victor, so should the disciple of Christ strive with untiring dili gence to achieve that rest and reward which await the faithful. nfe could have wished however Chat the speak er had used the third, instead ct the first persoii in recounting the history, Mii achievements o, the great apostle. Paul never would have talked Ops vaw»*.b»fc-> ly of himself, though the uttenncis were alt iu strict with truth. Again, it is very difficult for a protracted period, to assume am) sustain aright the ideutity of any great actor ir human events. It almost savors of presumption to do so, especially in the instance of a person age so remarkable, and giited, as tbis learned fil lower of Gamaliel, who is the greatest preactor the world ever produced. Mr. Armstrong wceecded probably a* well >s any other cofild have done, but the effect won t have been greater, had he simply described be life,.motives, and actions of the apostle, aid not essayed literally to impersonate and riepe sent him. His language however was fluent and offttocs felicitous, and we were both edified and interwt- ad by the exiuciscs of tlie morning. A Lawir Strike. —Yeetefday morn-' ii-ig s .me ul the colored laborers in the employ of Messrs. jS. &A. F. Tift struck for higher wages, and refused to enter upon the week’s fork. The Messrs. Tift promptly referred to their accounts, und finding that they were not indebted to any one of the “strikers,” ordered them at once to quit the prom ises. One of them denied having any part in the strike, and expressed a de sire to remain at old prices, and was permitted to do so. Two left. This is, we suppose, the heginning-of tfie labor league business, and ve ap plaud the action of tbe Messrs. (, J'JB Brand Jury PreseaTmente, ’- f NOVEMBER TER 'i, 1869. 1 'Dfe tbc Grind Juries, erapamteled tor jM first week of the Fall Term of the Superior fufut, having brought our labors to a close, beg leave to make the following presentments: Wit h an h onest and ardent desire to iuvesti *ate, and (Diligently inquire into all matters, nitwitted to our consideration, we trave in despite of the many embarrassing circumstances irith which we have been surrounded, scruti nized tlio infractions of the law in our inidst. i And we trust our labors will redound to the jest interests of ear people. Among other mat ;ers of pnblic concern.. we have inaugura t'd a therofigb investigation of the report, that vassowed broadcast, throughout the country, )y a colored convention, which was held iu Sla 'ton about tbe middle of last month. The report of said convention was predicated upon matter provided and furnished by appro priate cominiiiees.appOinted by that convention, md we are happy to say from the examination of one of the delegates, to wit Isaac, Reynolds, that our fellow citizens have been most sham - fully, and inexcusably slandered, and that tbe inteution of those who had these slanderous ckaiges concocted by said convention, was with the view of misleading public opinion in other sections of the Union, to enable their [ friends to consummate a sinister purpose. 0u r ipeople South have been maligned, as well by enemies from within, as from without, ami it does seem to us,it is high time our people man -s*t such resentment, as the exigency requires. We request' the Grand Jurors in different Jarta or •the State, to meet the allegations of tbe aforesaid convention as they deserve. All we a-k is to be tried by the touch stone of truth and tbe plummet of justice. These are our inalienable rights. The other delegates we have failed to get at in consequence, as we believe of their iuteution al absence from the county during the entire week. We most respectfully urge upon tbe proper authorities to spare no legal means to bring them before tbe Grand Jury of next week, who will doubtless kill the snake scotched by our body. Therepoitof which we complain, has done the people fef Randolph great and man ifest injustice. We trust that our political enemies at home and abroad will not deny us this verdict. Our calumniators ought to be guided and controlled by the manly instiacts common to our race but ehoukl they be unmindful e-f the same, we Wan but leave thorn to the goadings of their Wwn Consciences and the great tribunal before whom all must soon appear. We examined through appropriate 'Commit tees into tW financial affairs ol the county and have every reason to believe our pnblic officers have mftnaged the same with strict fidelity.— The Ordinary of our county, reports that he has granted orders on the county Treasurer fo r tlie last year, tor county purposes, three lrftu dred dollars and seventy-one cents, nft'A for tbe present year seventeen hundred ninety-nme dol lars aud seventy-oue cents, making in the aggre gate twenty-one hundred dollars and sixty-one oents. The amount received by this functiona ry for educational purposes is two thousand three hundred eighty-oue dollars and eigbty-seven cents .Paid out by vouchers aud for commissions eight hundred tbirty-eigbt dollars and seventy one cents, leaving in hand a balance of fifteen hundred forty-seven dollars and twenty eight cents, to pay the tuition of our children‘hereaf ter. We cannot refrain from speaking in high terms of commendation of this officer for the very neat and plain manner in which lie keeps his books. The books of county Treasurer show the fol lowing data. He has received from all sources since last May term of the court, nine hundred dollar*, on band at May term two thousand tbir fr *k.‘) ' Ard * u totality to two tbouaa.nl niue hundred thirty sx doUttrs amt forty-seven cent*. The books of our TaxfCul lector show the fol lo*wing exhibit: The amount of taxable prop erty in the county, after!deducting the amount the law provides for, is ike million six hundred and twenty-eight tbousaiil two hundred and ten dollars. Neuralgia of the Face and Head, as well as Sciatica, or pains iu the Hip, Joihts, Tliighs, Knees and Ancles. This method of treating disease in its various tonus bv external afiplications, was introduced by mein this State, in 1^65, my return from Euiope, and is, coniparativelv sf-eaking. a new one, hPVhakbeen alifealy sfifficienily tested in various parts of this State, to s-cure fur it hosts of frifindS, amongst the many patient* wlihse sufferings have been promptly and PERMANENTLY cured by means of the * Biometer.” t I hftve speedily restored those who from the blighting disease of Paralysis, and have had the gratification td see the return of health in tfm victims of Epileptic convalskn % whose cases have been repeatedly pronounced in'eurab by competent authorities. Gout and Rheumatism yields to this treatment with wonderful promptness, and not less re markable in the fact that all skin diseases, by whatever technical name they may be designated, have to succumb to my system of external medication. My Certificate*, which, amongst ot'rer*, bear the . ames of eminent citizens of this State and Alabama, will be distributed by mail, or feab be had upon application to me. A patient perusal of the same is solicited. Until further notice I can be found at the Hotel in Uothbert, on every Wednesday and Thursday, of each week, and hopte to secute the ap probation of those who may need my services. Libkrty Hall, CVtAwroarsviLr.S, Ga., Sept. I4tb, 1862 I think it proper to state to all who have no experience an the Needle Treatment, ns practiced by Dr M. L. l.ichtenstadt, aud who desire information upon the subject, that, i have tried :t and think well of it. It has, within rhy kntnoledye, in some coses, effected almost mnrvelout results. It w»8 the first thing that, gave me relief from the most, ngontziog pains, after intense suffering for ' two days from a seriuuS injury in the hip. From this hurl lam not yet restored—ant stilt una ble to walk—the injury was received more titan eight months ago. I have during that time, resorted to many remedies—non# have been eff. ctunl, and none that I have tried seem to hav» beeu more beneficial than the use ot the Bkmiet -r. It gave me the first relief from iutetis. rein, and under its continued occasional application, the general tone of the nervous system, altieh was so shocked by the hurt, has been greatly ini|ooved. Tbis is my opinion of the eh ■ t- of thiß'treatment on myself. In other cases within Wty knowledge, its effects have been as . have stated, almost marvelous. These cases wetre Cl Vonre Rheum at tom. Dr. Lichtenatadt i have found to be a man Os education, of urbanity and amenity of manners, and in all respect* deserving the consideration due to a gentleman. , ALEXANDER H. SrEPBENS. LicnTENSTAPT— Dear Sir: 1 ctitrid'ch it a sacred duty to ieiid«r you eicoorn «<-fe*.wl«d.q-PM.ont« for gh.- miirvt'bdis pure yon liaveicffocted in my Niece’s case, who has been afflicted with EPILEPTIC FITS, in its u-orst Jorw % for about twenty years, and will only tnentirin that nty object in rendering you thu elaborate stiitement is to enll the ettention of all sufferers, who are similarly af flicted, Vo youb method of treatment, and ttt beg IhCtti to lay aside their prejudice.-, to tby yotir skill, and bo ciite'd like my n'ioee ittrs lareb. A brief outline of this distressing case will snfljee': My niece, Miss Sarah- Gross, has lived with me from her infancy, and when about 14 y ears old, she was quite suddenly attacked with Spasmodic h ff-ctions, which constantly and •hdu ally gVew worse in spile of the best medical attention, until the spasms turned in to Epileptic Convulsions, retilrrtitig upon the- poor Victim at shorter intervals, making her a Wreck in body, and seriously affecting her hiind. The family, du ring all these long years, has spared nffilher money nor pains to have a cure ef fected. And when the skill of our local physician* had been exhausted, wo con cluded to try the science of professional men of Augusta-, Ga., but’all proved t> ter failures, and of the fifteen physicians, under whose treatment she has been tor the last tweoty years, not oue wan able to check tbe ravages of this dteadlul disease. •When you came to our village* ftnd promised us a cure, I confess that my con fidence in its success was very small ind'red, but I am now thankful to an Allwise Providence for the happy deliverance, and am anxious that others who are simi larly afflicted it) their families, should tie made acquainted with all the facts, and at least give you a trial. If they I ana etlre they will bless the day, and thunk | me for this statement. • It may appear strange to every one, to learn that, although my niece has had 1 from three to eight Epileptic Convulsions a week, for a period of nearly twetuvj years; accompanied by excruciating 1 headaches, that your remedy should be abie to cause a visible improvement from the start, but such is nevertheless the ease, and can be substantiated by all the neighbors in our settlement You began your treatment early in February, and improvement was evident after the second treat - ment. Her fits were getting milder and milder, and since the 13. h day of list Mftbch, she has not bad any tits nor symptoms. Her mind is now as good as ever it was before her first attack, and she its Dot only able to take care of herself, which she could not do before, but she is competent to perform a great malty do mestic duties, and undergoes a good many fatigues. I hope and trust Doctor, that you may continue in .your successes, relieving the afflicted, aud remain, gratefully, your friend, Mrs. SARAH E. HILL. . Ssaet*. Ga., June Iftth. 1860. I called in a f&nniy t'byrieiau. a nian of skill And science, but she continued to grow worse, until l began to dtopair, and con sidered her case almost hopeless. Hearing of your treatment. I prevailed upon her to have you called in. She consented witli gieat reiiiciance. and out' to gratify me. but the result, has been remaikable. Your first visit was in April loth, when she was so feeble that she had to rest three times during a very slight application of yoilr f-6m?dy.
