Bullock now Trying to buy up
the Country Democratic Press.
Editor Morning Nem: It is a notori
ous fact, that twelve or eighteen rnontlis
ngo Bullock appointed some eight or
ten newspapers, selecting, besides, two
in Atlanta, and one paper in each of the
large cities in the State to advertise his
proclamations and other advertisements,
which wore numerous, long u.id valns
ble to those advertising them, lie af
terwards privately selected some eight
or ten country papers, expending from
8*?0,000 to 830,000 of the people’s
money in this way. In doing this his
object, no doubt, was. and he no doubt
hoped, to win over some of these papers
tu ItimseK. The Atlanta Intelligencer
h« “gobbled up” quickly, hut to the
credit of the other daily city press, it
limy be said that lie made but little or
no impression, notwithstanding tie tried
lo ‘‘strike''’ at one and then another of
these papers in one city.
At tho beginning of the year, howev
er, he pnbliefy recalled these appoint
ments, through his organs, the Wew
Era an 1 In el i'queer, at Atlanta. .Most
persons, no douht, thought that, per
haps, in doing th 8 he had concluded
not to continue to advertise so extensive
in future. But it seems that this was
not bis object. Ilia purpose, as it now
appears, was to cut off those that lie
failed to buy right out, or win to or soft
en towards himself, and in a private
*uid secret in inner continue to some of
the former county press, to “try hrs
hand” upon others that he had not
“worked upon” before. It you don’t
believe me, Mr. Editor, just look ovet
the different exchanges coining to your
office, and you will find that while sevei
nl of the Democratic country papers,
And none of the city daily papers, thui
heretofore did this adveitming (not even
the A 1 ntu Consulutiou) are not now
udvelrising these proct.imnl'ons, etc. 1 ,
notwithstanding these papers have the
largest circulation in the State. Yet yon
will find that these advertisements, are
continued in other of the country pa
pers that have heretofore had these a<l
vertisements, and’ have “said nothing”
or “dealt gently’’ with Bullock and his
iniquity ; and you will also find them in
other country papers that have not
heretofore tiad them. Query : Ii Bul
lock merely wanted to cut <ti some
and substilute others, or merely mak<- a
change, why not publicly do sc—why
publicly recall alt ?
Whut effect this “lute dodge* of Bu!-
lock may have in the future, time ul>»e
ouu tell. But Mr. Editor, you may “bet
your bottom dollar” thut, do svliat Bul
lock may, you’ll not find some of thebe
beneficinrios very fierce upon him. Or,
if any one ol them fhoiild become ‘‘rest
ive, ’’ or “father indignant,” and becom
•o indiscreet as to “speak out,” their
honest feelings—“keep up the lick for
awhile”—“you can double your bet”
that they “get no more advertising frail
Mullock.” Report hath it that _v< n, Mr.
Editor, have bud a little “experimental
knowledge” on this pr»it. Hat,
JVaTCH AND SEE.
Growth oh Issuuan ce —There has
been something truly remarkable tn the
wonderful development which has ut>
temiod insurance interests in the United
States. It is computed that there is at
the present time of in
surunce against fire and marine losses
in all the States. During the past ten
years the file insurance business has de.
veioped from almost nothing to enor
mous proportions, For example, there
were ten years since but seventeen com
panies in the country, embracing fifty
six thousand policies. Now there are
over sixty companies, insuring betwoen
five and six hundred thousand people
for sums aggregating nearly $1,7U0,-
000,000. New companies are still or
ganizing, and the probabilities, are that
with increased inducements ofiered by
companies upward of two million peo
ple will hold policies before the end of
another ten years. There is now in al
most every State a small army of can
vassers, agents and others deriving a
livelihood from life insurance.

Hair Vigor,
For restoring Cray Hair to
its natural Vitality and Color.
tA dressing which
ia at onoe agreeable,
healthy, and effectual
for preserving tbe
hair. Faded or gray
hair is soon restored
to its original color,
with the gloss and
freshness of youth.
Thin hair is thick
ened, falling hair checked, and bald
ness often, though not always, cured
by its use. Nothing can restore the
hair where the follicles are destroyed,
or tbe glands atrophied and decayed.
But such as remain can be saved for
usefulness by this application. Instead
of fouling the hair with a pasty sedi
ment, it will keep it clean and vigorous.
Its occasional use will prevent the hair
from turning gray or falling off, and
consequently prevent baldness. Free
from those deleterious substances which
make some preparations dangerous, and
injurious to the hair, the Vigor can
only benefit but not harm it. If wanted
merely for a

Containing neither oil nor dye, it docs

A i-g become exhausted, it is nece-sary for the
planting community to look for a.sub3titue for this
article, so ettii-acions in promoting and sustaining
the gioA-lh of cotton, the combination of Peruvi

be the safest and best of all the many articles of
fered, and we are confident that in an oidinary sea
son, to use the language of Mr. David Dickerson,
can never fail. In presenting our AMMONIATED
to the planter, we but give the combination in a
form ready for immediate use, thus paving the cost
and trouble of manipulation and securing uniform

The practical results obtained from the articles
shipped by us, prove them to be superior to all oth

of the cotton growing regions, and, during lue past
