SCOTT & SMITH,
A Tale of llokrok. —Again are
we called upon to chronicle another
horror of the traffic in coolies. T. e
Peruvian ship Uncowa, from Macao,,
China, for Callao, was set on 111*0 by!
some of the coolies when near Nep
tune island. They succeeded in ac
complishing their hellish intention
too well, for after the discovery of
the fire all attempts to extinguish
it were in vain. When it was found
that there was no hope remaining
of saving the ship, the captain, offi
cers and crew were compelled to
take to the boats, and leave their
living freight as food for the de
vouring element. They were pick
ed Up by a San Salvador ship, the
Juanapore, together with oue hun
dred and twelve coolies, and were
landed on the Island of Java. Four
hundred and twenty ffve coolies
perished in the flames. We have
this information from a letter dated
Batavia, November 18,
The Uiicowa was formerly ah
American ship, and, although uuder
the Peruvian flag, was probably still
owned by Americans.— JT. Y. Her

Randolph Agricultural Society.
In pursuance of previous notice, n called
meeting of the Association waft held at the
Cotirt HousC on Saturday, the 14th inst.—
The regular Secretary, Mr. J.'B. Buchanan,
beißg absent, H. H; Jones was chosen to
fill his place, pro tempore.
The President stated that the object of the
meeting was the selection of three suitable
individuate to represent tire Randolph Club
for one year id the State Agricultural Socie
ty. An election was accordingly entered
into by ballot, resulting in the Choice of
Judge William Coleman, Hon. O. P. Beali
and H. H. Jones. These gentlemen will
therefore represent Randolph county in the
Spfing and Fall sessions of the State Associa
tion.
An interesting discussion then sprang tip
upon the best means of infusing life and in
creased interest in the proceedings of our
monthly clnb meetings. It was suggested
that the presence of the ladies aud the pub
lic, generally, would tend to produce this
result, and on those occasions colloquial de
bates upon questions of special interest would
prove interesting and instructive, Essays
too, upon leading agricultural questions
might be prepared and read witli profit be
fore Ihe’CluV.
In furtherance of these views, Col. Eugeni
us Douglass, altera few remarks upon the
importance of a stock law, and the great need
of hedges in spai-sely timbered districts, offer
ed a resolution that a Committee be appoint
ed, with H. H. Jones as Chairman, to pre
pare a paper en these topics for the use of
the society.
The latter individual insisting however,
that the customary pafHiafeientary usage be
adhered to, in the naming of Committees,
the President appointed Col. Douglass, H, H.
Jones and J. B. Buchanan to consider and
report upon the expediency of abolishing
field enclosures, by the enactment of a suita
ble stock law, and <4rc best hedges adapted
to this climate and latitude.
A resolution was then adopted aud order
ed to be published in the Cuthbert Appeal,
urging every member of the club to attend
the next regular meeting in February, at
wbfoh time l/Hsintss of the greatest importance
will require to be transacted.
On motion the meeting adjourned.

What is headache ? In nine cases ont of ten
the source of headache is not iu the hr tin, but
iu the stomach. Indigestion is the most fre
quent canse. The digestive organs being dis
orderd, they derange the action of the liver,
the bowels, thfe kidneys, and the nerves, and
the whole secret! ve and excretive ntachiuery
being as it were thrown ont of gear, the brain
suffers. Restore the natural tone of the stom
ach and bowels with a few doses of TAR
RANT S SELTZER APERIENT, and lu-ad
atehe arising from this cause is at onfce arrest
ed. This delightful preparation is the be t
remedy for chronic and periodical headache,
at pre-sen known, and absolutely invaluable
as a stomachic and gentle cathartic.
