The Match Game Again.—
We have had left on our table
the following note, which is .com
prehensive and explicit. A gay
time is expected, and we hope will
be fully realized :
The Montezuma Base Ball Club,
will play a match game with the
Magnolia Base Ball Club, on Fri
day 31st May, and a good time
may be expected —whichever side
gains the victory. We have heard
that several ladies will accompany
the Moutezuma boys, to inspire
their hearts, and nerve their arms
for victory. It is hoped that our
Cuthbcrt ladies will cheer the Mag
nolia’s with their inspiring pres
ence.
The ladies of Cuthbert and vicini
ty are all invited ; and as many as
can do so, are requested to bring
their baskets laden with provisions
to cheer the inner 'man.*
Game will be called at 9 A. M.
A Good Suggestion. —A writer in
a Eufaula paper urges upon the peo<
pie of that vicinity the practice of
most rigid economy, aa the only
method by which they may hope
to get out of debt, and enter again
upon a prosperous business career.
We endorse the suggestion and
would also have it apply to the citi
zens of Columbus and vicinity.
Next to work—unanimous, constant
and unceasing labor on the part
of all classes, colors, sexes and con
ditions —retrenchment and economy
in all departments is essential to
the restoration of the longed for era
of peace and plenty. Economy
in eating, drinking, dressing and
pleasure-taking must become the
ofder before the Southern people
may hope to become themselves
again. Our people will not be
able to pay their debts so long as
they seek to live beyound their
means, and while everybody is
heels-over-head in debt, nothing
but ruin and bankruptcy will stare
us in the fate. The sooner wc be
gin a thorough and radical reform
m this direction better. Let
us see to it that whilst laboring
earncsly and honestly to better
our condition that we stop all use
less and foolish expenditures, — Co
lumbus JCnguirer.

How VVk Usko to bb Physicked.—Who
does not remember the time when spiing
purgation was considered indispensable to
summer health ? No matter for wry faces,
the inevitable salt* and senna, rhubarb, or
calomel and jalap, must be administered.
These “spiing* medicines” the youngsters
were told, were to keep them hale and hearty
during the summer. We all know that this
was a falacy ; that new vigor, not depletion,
is wiiat is required at the commencement of
the summer solistice. Asa prepaiatiou for
the enervatiug effects of oppressive summer
weather, a course of Hostetter’s Stomach
Bitters is highly expedient. This famous
vegetable preparation has three prominent
properties ; It renovates, purifies, and regu
lates all the functions of the body. It is com
posed exclusively of pure vegetable produc
tions, viz; the essential principle of Monon
gahela Rye, and the most efficacious tonic
and alterative roots, barks, and gums known
to medical botanists. Hence, it is an absolute
ly safe medicine, and no tiucture of the Phar
macopoeia can compare with it either in puri
ty, or. in the variety of its objects, and its
comprehensive results. Happily for man
kind, the tht ory that it was necessary to pros
trate a patient in order to cure him, is forever
exploaed, and the tine philosophical doctrine,
that vigor is the great antagonist of disease,
has taken its place. Hoslettef’s Bitters is an
iuvigorant, and hence it is the proper Medi
cine for the feeble at this most trying season
of the year.
Be sure that you obtain the genuine article
as there are innumerable vile imitations in
the market. Look to the ornamental star p

The Cause of Temperancx finds soipe of
its most insidious and dangerous foes in the
many so-called “tonics” and “appetizers,”
made of cheap whisky and refuse liquors,-fin
ished up to suit depraved appetites, under the
name of medicines. Dr. Walker’s California
Vinegar Bitters are none of these. They
are not a beverage, but a genuine medicine,
purely vegetable, prepareu from California
herbs by ar> gldar physician. For all diseases
of the stomach, liver, kidneys, bladder, skin
and blood, they are an infallible and uurivall
ed remedy. 4w
