The Warning has been Heeded.— Since
the exposure of the attempts made l>y certain
unscrupulous local dealers, to palm oil their
coarse astringents, made from aheap and im
pure materials, in the place of the great na
tional tonic, Hosthtter's Stomach Bitters,
public opinion has set strongly ag iust these
empirios and their preparations. Their occu
pation is gone, or soon, will be. 'When the
light ie let into deception it soon wilts down.
Persons who trifle with their own health, by
using unknown preparations, with no guar
antee to sustain them, when au established
specific, proven by twenty years experience
to be exactly wbat it is claimed to be, is
within'heir reach, are' sure to repent their
temerity. Many have done so in this in
stance, but it is Imped that the truth plainly
spoken has arrested the evil. In the mean
time the demand tor the leading protective
and restorative medicine bl America was nev
er so great as it lias been this season. From
the fever and agne districts ot the west, South
west, and south, it is literally overwhelming,
and it may he said of the advices from all
parts ot the conutry of the cures it is effecting
in dispepsia, bilious complaints, and chronic
constipation, that " their name is legion.”—
Everywhere the sick and feeble seen) to have
realizep the importance of “.holding fast, that
which is good,” and of avot-ing what is spu
rious and dangm-ous.
The numerous “ Bitters,” under varisous
names, .which mercenary dealers endeavor to
substitute for Ilostetter’s Stomach Bitters,
should be avoided, forlbeir own sake?, by the
sick and the public at large. Hostetter s
Bitters are- procurable in botiles only, aud
never bold in bulk.

Death of Mrs. Greeley. —From
the Associated Press dispatches,
dated New York, Oct. 30th, we
glean the following in regard to the
death of Mrs. Greeley :
Mrs. H. Greeley died this morn
ing at the residence of Mr. Alvin
Johnson. During the evening of
yesterday symptoms were of such a
favorable character as to inspire
some faint hopes of iter recovery.
Such expectations, however, proved
unfounded, as she had two chills
during the night, after which she
was very easy, until she eeased to
breathe at 4 a, m, passing away
peacefully without any perceptible
struggle. The funeral' will take
place in Dr. Chapin's church at 12
o’clock on Friday.

Dear Editor Appeal : —On the evening
of 25th, as the King of day bade farewell U)
the world, and night spread its sable man
tle o’er the face of nature, there was assem
bled in the Chapel of the Academy, a vast
throng, with-bright anticipations, and thrill
ing hopes as to what they soon expected to
see or hear. They were not kept long in
suspense before the curtains were drawn
aside, and truly did they behold a sc ue so
enrapturing as to completely unbridle their
joy and astonishment. Its beauty was ex
ceeding great, transcending the utmost reach
of thought—consequently any attempt at de
scription would be vain. While wefeel inad
equate to the task of giving an elaborate de
scription, we cannot be indifferent to the re
sult of the successful enterprise the young
ladies haveso nobly and heroically achieved .
Scenes like those exhibited, arouse the liber
ality of the soul, and enlist the better feel-
ings of the heart. Everything connected
with the exhilarating occasion betokened the
presence ot a delicate and refined taste. It
was instrumental in securing a pretty little
sum which is to be appropriated to a com-,
mendable cause. In my congratulations to
the young ladies for their success, 1 ardently
wish they may live long and ever recognize
the hand of propriety as their attendant.
The succeeding day, as aurora left her
saffron bed, and covered the earth with new
born light, the 2d nine of the Pataula Base
Ball Club were on the alert, consummating
the necessary arrangements preparatory to a
match game to be played between them aud
the Ist nine of the Gerauiums, commencing
at 9 o’clock, A. M. At the designated hour
they. presented themselves on the ground,
nnd after maneuvering some time, the game
was called. The boys went at it as if all
eutertained the idea that they would be tri
umph. At the conclusion of the fourth
inning, time wus called, and soou the pleas
ant faced muttons and lovely daughters
could be Eeen approaching the Academy
Irum all directions, with baskets of delicacies,
after the spreading of which, the crowd was
invited up, and it was not long before it'
became evident that there would be a gener
al triumph as regards the inner man. The
ladies merit much praise for getting up such
a sumptuous repast.
At 2 o'clock, the game was re-called, and
. was quite exciting and interesting until the
remaining five innings were played, when it
was announced by the scorer that the score
stood as follows : ,
Pataula’s 87 ; Geranium’s 08. Tip?„s}'!-
ed the day, and all went home with light
hearts to spend the evening in pleasant con

by it, and that iu an inconceivably short space

Dr. Wh. H. Tctt—Dear Mr: 1 feel it a duty

have been a great sufferer, my general health
broke down, and I was effected with nervous
ness of the- most terrible character, which
was soon followed by ail eruption all over
the body, forming large ulcere iu some places
and attended with rheumatic pains. Tongue
cannot describe ray suffering. I was reduced
almost to a skeleton and had a perfect loath
ing of food. I was attended by several pby
siciaus, who rendered me no relief. I des
paired ofiever being well again, but tbaaks
to a kind Providence, I accidentally heard of
your medicine. I sent for half a dozen bot

feel better, my appetite improved, aud the
rheumatic pains became less severe, and I
could enjoy sleep. I have continued its use
and have taken eleven bottles aDd betieve I
am a sound man again. The ulcers have all
healed, my skiu is smooth and healthy, and I
have gained 22j>ounds in weight. I bffiieve

I would earnestly recommend your compound
