On Tuesday after the nomination on Mon
day, I was in Cuthbert, aud to my great sur
prise and mortification I found some opposi
tion in regard to certain of the Nominees,
viz : the Sheriff and Treasurer. If I had
had my cite ice I Aould have adopted the
present incumbents, but as I did not exactly
get my choice it is evident that others got
theirs, and 1. for one feel it, not only my
privilege but bound in duty to stand by the
colors and support the whole tieket as nom
inated .
Cuthbert bas heretofore urged fidelity to
the nominated t eket and we hope in this
case will not "Bolt,” but preserve untar
nished her record of by-gone days. We do
not propose to advise any to act against their
conscience and judgment, but only ask you
to weigh it by ‘reason in this case, and stir
not up strife and contention, nor give pre
emiuence to an element antagonistic to
our political welfare, which it would cer
tainly (lo were there to come out a number
of independent candidates.
No motive has impelled me to offer these
remarks except that of preserving the har
mony that has heretofore pervaded the polit
ical circle in our county, and that we think
should constrain each one to cordially sup
port the nomination. Ilence we ask the
many DeVnocrats to prove their fidelity by

Avery touching episode inter
rnpted the regular proceedings of
the ' hursday morning session of the
Methodist Conference in the l't raw!
presentation by Bishop Pierce of a
relic which the now sainted Bishop
Andrew had in his dying Lours be
queathed to Bishop Marvin.
Bishop Pierce said that he was not
a worshiper of Images, nor did he
believe there is any atonement in
the bones of dead saints. But he
was foml of relics of the past, par
ticularly when they are consecrated
by associations with tne great
and good. Bishop Andrew, that
great and good man, revered
by all the Church, in his- last
moments sent messages of love
to some of the brethren, and articles
of property to others. To Bishop
Marvin he had sent -not silver nor
gold, no pearl trom the ocean, nor
gems from the mountain, for he had
none of these ;it was a razor and
ease that had belonged to the
severed Bishop As nury, by whom it
was presented to Bishop Andrew.
Bishop Pierce begged that Bishop
Marvin would accept this little piece
of property, valuable in the associ
ations that were connected with it
with the wish that the time of his
possession and use of it might be
long, happy and useful. —Atlanta

It seems to be decided, at last, that
the Fourteenth Amendment doc
not provide for every possible con

colored people. In considering tin
education of the children of the
two races in the same schools, two
Northern courts have recently held
that, the question belongs to the
school board for decision, and not
to the amendment or the citizen.
Their arguments are, that any classi
lication which preserves substantial
ly equal school advantages is not
prohibited by either the State or
Federal Constitution ; that the citE
zen cannot dictate where or by what
teacher his children shall be taught;
and that “ equality of rights ” does
not imply that white and colored
children shall be educated in the
same school any more than it im
plies the education of both sexes in
the same school. — N. 3 . Tribune.
