HUBBERT FIELDER. • < ■■ Japan has 33,000,000 inhabitants. One hour to-day is worth two to-morrow. Lager sells in Cincinnati at 2J cents per glass. Moody and Sankey are at Ben nington, Vermont. Four boats are running on the Chattahoochee river between Co lumbus and Apalachicola. It was an “off-year in Ohio politics,” and so the Radicals are all “off.” The orange product of Florida for the year 1877 is estimated at 17,000,000 oranges. A writer from Western Texas es timates the loss from boll-worms iu Texas this season at $13,000,000. Salt Lake City just at present re minds one of a wail street specula tion; there’s no great prophet in it. Htlfieen thousand dollars in gold Kviis paid for a watch chain and locket to a jeweller in Manchester, England. If our country should becomo as densely populated as Holland, it would contain 1,000,000,000 inhab itants. The indications are that Bishop’s (Dam.) majority for Governor of Ohio will he moro than twenty-five thousand. Gold is but a poor legacy in com parison with immortal thought. The ©no is human, worthless; the other divine, invaluable. A Prohibitionist estimates that about $100,000,000 more is expend i and yearly in this country for rum than the total gross earnings of all our railroads amount to. Yesterday, somwhere he pireen sunrise and sunsot, two gol lien hours, each set with sixty dia mond minuts. No reward is offered, for they are gone forever ! ‘ The Early County News says : n Mr, Hiram liinchen has the credit of raising, and G. B. Swann, Esq., the credit of giuniug, the best bale *of cotton that has been sent to • New York from Early county since the war.” Col. H. H. Jones, of the Macon Telegraph, is being spoken of as the probable representative in the next Legislature from Bibb county, lie would make an able and faithful representative of any county in the ~jstate in any assembly. Bibb coun ty could not do better than to send the Colonel. Jacksonville, Oct. 16—. Two deaths at Fcrnandinal to day. Dr. Herndon, a volunteer physician Low Savannah, died this morning. ffcWITENTION CUTHBEItT GUARDS. — *¥*ou are hereby ordered to be and appear at City Ilall this (biiday) evening at 7J o'clock to attend business meeting. By order of JNO. F. KIDDOO, Capt. IQ RjGfliEjt, O. S. Vox I*opuli. Editor of Appeal: I notico that an impression is j sought to be made in the last issue j of the Messenger, through the agency of “Nancy Hazeltine, Coun ty & Cos.” that Mr. McDonald was instrumental in getting up the peti tion addressed fo himself, and which has been so unanimously signed by the voters of our county. Now it was not necessary that Nancy, (if so it be) or one of the “ weired sis ters,” go forth at the dark hour of night, to gain “ a peep into our hand.” How easily she might have saved herself such reproach. True womanly instinct should have prompted her to act in the broad light of heaven. But lam admon ished that those who work evil “love darkness rather than light;” nor was it at all necessary, in this in stance, that a grand council of the “ wizard crew ” be held, or the “ magic wand ” be called into requi sition to divine the meaning of this, to them, mysterious document, for had they sought the light of day, where all people of good intentions perform their deeds, they might have found upon the counters ot the principal business houses of our little city, and circulating through out our county, these documents, and without difficulty have com prehended the meaning. Below I present the document, for the con sideration of those who have not seen it. Read and digest. Don’t it present a very forcible meaning ? Go again and consult the Wizard crew. Stretch forth the magic wand, and my word for it, they will tell you that it is what Mr. Tumlin would call the “spontaneous out burst of dear old Randolph.” It is tho voice of the people, Nancy—and mark my declaration, it will be heard on the sth of December next. It is all voluntary, too. No one has been importuned to sign this document, nor is it the machination of McDonald. He has had nothing to do with this matter.— You are right when you say that we admonish all to be on hand to morrow. We will be there pre pared to foil all your deep laid schemes. I imagine Capt. Tumlin will re gret having declined McDonald’s proposition for both to disallow the use of their names for the Legisla ture, and allow the people to quiet ly and peaceably select their can didate. Wouldn’t be jump now, think you, after reading the follow ing list of volunteer petitioners? Young Democracy. To James J. McDonald, Esq. : We, the undersigned citizens of Randolph county, recognizing the great importance of harmony among our people, especially at this time, respectfully ask you to become the people's candidate for the Lower House of the General Assembly in tho election to be held December sth, Believing that the interests of all classes of our people could be safely trusted in your hands, and that the use of your name at tin's time will go very far toward secur ing the great objects for which we, as a people, shou'd all strive, viz : peace, harmony and union and trusting that you fully appreciate the motive that prompts us to ask this sacrifice.
