Young of Thankful Baptist Church. The fee for using the Julian Smith Casino Bar-B-Q pit, has been reduced from SSO to $25. Richmond County Commissioners voted to increase their salaries 5 percent, along with the rest of the county employee’s, retroactive Jan. 1, 1973. Jimmy Daniels, what happened to that slack suit? The cat had been up there for two days, and all efforts were exhausted trying for help. The caller wanted to know if any of Harley’s listeners could help. Well the caller got his wish, a listener called in and said he would be more than glad to get the cat down, but did not make house calls. Now hear this, from Fort Gordon comes the news that liquid marijuana has been found in the possession of a soldier. According to information received, it was the first time the military encountered the drug in the United States. However civilian authorities reported finding some of the same type drugs in Atlanta area. Here’s a zippy bit that ought to make you flip. The basic concepts of astrology date back over five thousand years. Astrologists say that the position of the sun, moon and planets at the time of your birth affects your entire life. So people born at different times of the year tend to have different potential characteristics. Students at the Atlanta University held a mock mayoral election recently and polled 2,113 votes out of a possible 2,525 for an 89.3 percent show of strength for Atlanta vice-mayor Maynard Jackson. The student organization called The Movement for Black Unity, are disturbed that three blacks have announced being in the mayoral race and it seems apparent other blacks will too. Calling on the black community to select one black candidate a student spokesman said, “splitting the black vote is often a strategy of those who do not wish to see black people in office. Aside from Jackson, State Senator Leroy Johnson, and Dr. W.J. Stafford in the race thus far. A sport note from Atlanta: The Atlanta Hawks professional basketball team have always said, they are one good forward from being a winning team. Well there are as of this writing, five ex-Hawk forwards considered not good enough for the Atlanta team playing in the National and American Basketball Association playoffs, all five just happen to be black. The ex-Hawk forwards are Joe Caldwell (Carolina Cougars - ABA), Zelmo Beatty (also of the ABA), Walt Hazzard (Golden State Warriors • NBA), Paul Silas (Boston Celtics - NBA) and Bill Bridges playing with such greats as Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West nad Gail Goodrich, on the Los News Media Saluted By Augusta Rotarians The Augusta Rotarians saluted the entire area news media last Thursday. Naming it News Media Appreciation Day, a luncheon was held at Timmerman’s Inn and awards were given for best News, broadcasting and telecasting features of the year. Top honors went to Jim Davis, WJBF-TV, for the outstanding program, Dialoque, and the presentation of the League of Women Voters question of local office seekers, MEET THE CANDIDATES. Second runnerup was awarded to Bill Berry of WZZW and WTHB radio for his live broadcast of the Augusta Police departments community relations teams record hops for youth. Second runnerup was also awarded to Frank Adams, staff writer for the Augusta Chronicle and his story of the Angeles Lakers in the NBA. Had the pleasure of meeting George A. Christenberry, president of Augusta College last week. Richmond County Commissioner Don Neal tells me Manpower related services are eligible for special federal revenue sharing funds. Don is also chairman of the CSRA Manpower Planning Commission, and says that if his group application is accepted, sl.l million of the special funds will come straight to the Commission to help alleviate poverty related problems for the thirteen counties making up Georgia’s side of the CSRA. C.O. (Scott) McPherson, who is serving time at the Richmond County Correctional Institution was voted vice-president of the junior class by his fellow classmates at Augusta College.
