Watson, Secretary of the Foundation. Begun during the 1971-1972 academic year, the AUC Dual-Degree Program is a pioneering project in cooperation between a predominantly Black and a predominantly white institution. Students attend one of the Atlanta University Center colleges - Clark, Morehouse, Morris Brown or Spelman -for three years and then transfer to Georgia Tech for two years. Graduates receive two degrees, a Bachelor of Arts or Science from the AUC college and a Bachelor of Engineering from Georgia Tech. The AUC institutions form the largest private cluster of colleges in the United States with a predominantly Black enrollment. Commenting on the GE Foundation grants, Dr. Charles MR. & MRS. HOME OWNER Do you employ a cook, cleaning woman or other domestic worker in your home for one or more days per week? If so, you are paying them more than- fifty dollars per quarter in wages, and you should be withholding and paying Social Security contributions for them. Your failure to do this denies your employee his right to receive Social Security benefits for themselves and their dependents in later years. Merideth, director of the AUC Dual-Degrees Program said: “The General Electric Foundation’s continued support for the program has made possible the hiring of instructors for pre-engineering courses not previously available at the AUC colleges. “This means that all of the pre-engineering courses required of every engieering student are now taught on the AUC campuses, and only those engineering courses required for the engineering degree must be taken at Georgia Tech. “The additions to our curriculum made possible by Foundation support have not only vastly improved our pre-engineering program but have also helped to recruit engineering students because the course offerings at AUC colleges in pre-engineering have given the Dual-Degree Program an identity that was absent up to this time. “The Foundation grants have also provided funds to purchase portable engineering drafting kits for our students. “Now it is very common to see students working around our campuses with their portable drafting kits and standing in groups discussing their pre-engineering courses. 1 feel that the major problem with Blacks being attracted to the engineering profession is die lack of visibility of the profession in the Black community and on the traditional Black college campus. “It is for these reasons that the Dual-Degree Program is very grateful to the General Electric Foundation for its GEA Sponsors Probe Regional Fair A chance for CSRA high school students to talk with representatives of more than 65 institutions of higher education will be offered Oct. 23 at Bell Auditorium during the Probe Regional Fair. Sponsored by the Georgia Education Articulation Committee, the Augusta fair is one of 20 to be held at central points throughout the state. Last year only five fairs were held. “The increased number was brought about in an effort to reach more Georgia high school students with more information about post secondary education,” according to John L. McNeal, admissions director at Augusta College and local fair coordinator. A Probe Counselor Workshop and Luncheon has been scheduled from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. that day at the Bhk John H. It’s the unique way we have of expressing ourselves. That’s one of the reasons the National Black Network saw the need for a national Black news service. What do we call Black news? It's simply news reported by Black people, edited by Black people, and affecting the lives of Black people. That's the National Black Network—a vital communications link between Black communities everywhere. It’s a bet that when you listen.to an NBN station, you’ll knowAvhere it's coming from. Richmond Motor Hotel, McNeal said. Counselors and principals from throughout the CSRA are expected to attend the pre-fair workshop which will explore what’s new in post secondary educational opportunities. A panel discussion will be chaired by Dr. Thomas McDonald, Director of Admissions and Testing of the University System of Georgia. The Probe fair will begin at 5 p.m. and continue until 8. Students may talk with representatives from colleges and universities, vocational-technical schools and health career schools. Parents are urged to attend in order to receive firsthand information on admissions, financial aid and opportunities in post secondary education, McNeal stressed. Those institutions which will be represented will be announced at a later date.
