Stallings has been promoted to Loan Officer of The Citizens and Southern National Bank of South Carolina. He is assigned to the Columbia office. Stallings joined C&S in April of this year as a Management Associate. In June he was named Assistant Branch Manager of the office located in the C&S Building at Jefferson Square. A native of Augusta, Georgia, Stallings is a graduate of Allen University and received his Master of Science degree in mathematics from Southern Illinois University in 1968. He taught math for the Paineite In December’s EBONY Dr. Elias Blake, director of the Institute for Services to Education, is pictured in the December issue of Ebony magazine. Dr. Blake gives his views in an article entitled “The Plight of Black Studies”. Prior to coming with C&S in Columbia he was associated with The Citizens and Southern National Bank of Georgia as Credit Manager. Stallings holds membership in the National Bankers Association, Southern Illinios Alumni Association and Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, and serves as a Deacon at Friendship Baptist Church. He is married to the former Geneva Butler of Augusta. The couple has three children: Sylvia, 13; Jimmy, 7; and March, age 4. Dr. Elias Blake on Black Studies for the U.S. Office of Education. A native of Brunswick, Ga., Dr. Blake was given consideration for the presidency of Paine College following Dr. E. Clayton Calhoun’s resignation. W.S. The interest was very high!. (3) The Student Library assistants presented an assembly program at which time Mrs. Kelly Kestler from the Augusta Public Library reviewed some of the books that are listed on the Georgia Children’s Book Award list for 1973-74. The boys and girls are enjoying reading these books. Prizes were awarded to the following classes for classroom displays: Class 3A - Mrs. Vansant. Teacher, First Prize; Calss 5C - Mrs. Deenan, Teacher, First Prize; Class 6A - Mrs. Morrison, Teacher, First Prize; Class 2B - Mrs. Lee, Teacher, Second Prize; Class 4A - Mrs. Hauser, Teacher, Second Prize; Class 6B - Mr. Cornelius, Teacher, Second Prize; Class IB - Miss Toole, Teacher, Third Prize; Class 7C - The Augusta News-Review - November 29, 1973 - Mrs. Williams, Teacher, Third Prize. Certificates were given to all classes participating. Mrs. Kestler, Librarian, Augusta Public Library and Mrs. Nicholas, Librarian from Sand Bar Ferry Elementary School served as judges. Mr. J.L. Starks, Principal, presented awards to the following student for Summer Reading at the Public Library: Anita Anthony, Bernadette Anthony, Valerie Anthony, Deetra Arnold, Sharon Diggs, and Deltyre Eagle. The members of the Library Committee are Mrs. Eason, Librarian, Mrs. Lee, Miss Toole, Mrs. Chism, and Miss Wright. Page 9
