BETHLEHEM CENTER GETS
PROTECTION

that a conference between
Chief Beck of A.P.D. and
officials of the Bethlehem
Center, has resulted in more
police protection for the
Conklin Ave. structure.
Hello Joe Thomas, at
Bethlehem.
PRICE PATROL
Folk have been asking this
corner who is the attractive
Black sister on T.V.’s Price
Patrol. Well she’s Mrs. Willie
(Emma) Wade, and mother of
15 year old J.C. Ivan Calhoun.
OID SGT.’s REUNION
Nope it wasn’t planned but
it happened, nostalgia and all,
at Shoestrings. Sgt. Major
Hughlon Johnson (Ret.)
bumped into Sgt. George
Thomas (Ret.) whom he saw
last in 1951. While they were
stretching stories of
yesterday-year, in walks Sgt.
Gulley and Gavin. To make a
long story short, yours truly
left before the flow.

| Planned Parenthood ®
“I notice you don’t have
many children. I have too
many. Could you help me?”
This plea from a poor,
expectant mother with four
small children was voiced to a
woman operating a milk
station in Augusta in the depth
of the depression.
It led, many years later, to
the formation of what is now
Planned Parenthood of East
Central Georgia, 1862 Central
Avenue. The organization,
which is run by a board of
volunteers whose president is
Dr. Edwin S. Bronstein of the
Medical College of Georgia, is
staffed by an executive
director, Mr. Mike Sanders, and
a secretary-bookkeeper.
Planned Parenthood cares. It
offers a number of services to
the people of Augusta. Every
Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m.
the Women’s Health Center is
open at 1862 Central Avenue
by appointment. Here a
woman can have a physical
examination which includes a
Pap smear (cancer test), urine
check, breast and pelvic
examinations, hemoglobin
check and veneral disease tests.
If she wishes she can also be
