H| The T.W. Josey High School AFJROTC Cadet Corps is pleased to announce the following cadet promotions. “A” Flight - To Cadet Lt. Bryant Commands Female Troops hMMk EP bit .j’w*** 1 r i 7k ~~5«E LT. KENZIE BRYANT, JR. Most men strive to win the heart of one woman . . . ILT Kenzie Bryant, Jr., Company Commander of the WAC Student Company, Ist Battalion, U.S. Army Southeastern Signal School, has won the heart of a whole female Company since he took command in August of this year. Not only has he won the heart of his female company, but according to company members the moral and esprit de corps improved greatly with the arrival of Lt. Bryant. “1 really like my job, it’s very rewarding. To my surprise, I have met no antagonism because I am a male. I expected some of the girls to resent me; they are so used to being commanded by a woman. 1 try to treat the women like soldiers and they seem to respond with responsibility and respect. 1 don’t think they act any different with me than if had a female commander. Women come in the Service with more education than most of the men and many times they make better soldiers,” Bryant said. At one time it worried the young officer that maybe the girls wouldn’t come and see him about some of their personal problems, because he was a man. He worried that these problems might go unattended. However, he now feels this is no longer a problem. “I have the advantage of having female cadre members,” he admits, “and if a girl is shy she might prefer to talk to another woman.” PVT Wava Wiley states that even if LT Bryant is a man, she will go to see him about all her problems. “He is so nice and helps us a lot.” “The way he talks to us no other company commander has,” says another young private, Karen Powers. “He SICKLE CELL ANEMIA TEST SICKLE CELL CENTER SCREENING CLINIC OPEN MONDAY - FRIDAY 8:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M. Tice; to Cadet Airman First Class: J. McCarthy; to Cadet Sergeant: makes you feel like he respects you. More praise about the young male CO, comes from ISG Eva Morris, who has seen many companies and many different company commanders in her Army career. “1 think this company is now the best in the United States,” she beams. The morale is high.” On some G1 nights one can see Bryant in the barracks helping out. He fixes buffers, helps carry heavy things and is generally around for advice and assistance. “He treats us so great,” says another Cadre member PFC Suzanne Sypert. “I feel like a professional soldier now; most men in the Army don’t treat us they way he does.” LT Bryant, who married his childhood sweetheart, loves his job and his life. He is the type of man that protrudes confidence and a sense of humor. Originally from Enfield, North Carolina, he entered the Army right after his college graduation in 1970. He had majored in business, but wanted to do something quite different with his life. After finishing the Signal Officer Basic Course at the Southeastern Signal School, he was for a short time the XO of the 6th Battalion. “From there I went on to the Primary Rotary Wing Flight Course at For Wolters, Texas and then the Advanced Flight Course at For Rucker, Alabama. I love to fly,” he adds. After a tour of duty in Vietnam, Bryant came back to the Signal School. “When I came here I made a long list of the things that had to be done and improved in the company,” he says. “It’s a long list, but it’s getting done. By the way, I think the chairs in the dateroom should be covered with herculon, don’t you?” I CO.
