She was a former resident of
Augusta and was a member of
the Truevine Baptist Church.

Wednesday Jan. 23 at his
residence.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs.

Sunday Jan. 27 at 1:00 p.m. at
People’s Funeral Home Chapel

Burial was held at Dalton
Baptist Church, Girard, Ga.

Edgefield, S.C.
He was also a member of the
Young Men of Honor and the
York Rite Masonci Lodge
Edgefield, S.C.
Survivors are three sisters:

Mrs. Ida Nicholson, Augusta,
Mrs. Henrietta Sims,
Greensboro, N.C.; one brother,
Mr. Corley Brown Columbia,

at the residence of his parents,

students and Future
Homemakers of America club
members of Tubman Jr. High
School have been very busy
this school year carrying out
home, school and community
projects.
Their most recent project is
a window display at the
“Land-O-Fabrics”, cloth shop
on Central Avenue. This
exhibit holds the result of
energy, effort, talent and
enthusiasm these students put
into their work in the
classroom.
The exhibit features collors,
fabric textures, styles and fads,
all true expressions of the
teenage wardrobe of 74.

January marked the first
birthday of the Women’s
Health Center, 1862 Central
Avenue. Byway of celebration
the Center is expanding and
enlarging its facility.
Formerly the clinic was held
in the mobile examining unit
of the Richmond County
Health Department, which
parked at the Planned
Parenthood building. This
mobile clinic is a physician’s
office on wheels. Beginning
February 6 the clinic will move
into two newly renovated
examing rooms on the second
floor of Planned Parenthood.
Volunteers staff the
Women’s Health Center, which
is a private facility open by
appointment Wednesdays 5 to
9 p.m. These volunteers
include licensed practical
nurses, interviewers, registered
nurses and physicians trained
in obstetrics and gynecology.
Mrs. Ocie Johnson, and Mike
Sanders, executive director of
Planned Parenthood, are
co-directors of the clinic.
The low fees are based on

Augusta College will sponsor
a Community Development
Work Conference on “The
Family--For Better or Worse”
beginning Feb. 7 and
continuing for the next eight
Thursday nights in the College
Activities Center.
Registration for the
conference, which is open to
the public, will be held from
6:30 until 7 p.m. on Feb. 7 in
Room Two of the College
Activities center. Dr. John M.
Smith Jr., associate professor
of sociology, is project director
and workshop instructor.
The conference will explore
the nature of family, sexual
interaction, mate selection,
children, cyclical changes in
family functioning, family
disorganizations and its
implications, and the family in
the 21st century.
Each of the eight sessions
will be held from 7 until 9:30
p.m. on Thursdays through
March 28 in Meeting Room
Two of the College Activites
Center.
A second workshop,
scheduled for spring quarter, is
entitled “Crime-The Private
C itizen’s Concern”. The
conference will explore the
problem of crime in the
community as it affects
citizens in their work, social
activities, and way of life.
“It will take a look at the
system of criminal justice and
the part citiznes play in making
the system work for the good
of the entire community,” said

smear (cancer test), pelvic
examination, blood test,
instruction in breast
self-examination, urinanalysis
and VD tests.
For those women who wish,
there is pregnancy testing,
counseling and birth control
devices and referral for
problems relating to infertility,
genetics, adoption and problem
pregnancy.
The woman needing a
low-cost, high quality physical
examination, a mother
wondering how to space her
next children, or a student
afraid that she’s pregnant or
may have contracted a venereal
disease can all find help at
Planned Parenthood’s Women’s
Health Center, 1862 Central
