On last Saturday evening the
Augusta Adult Society held its
annual Debutantes Cotillion.
On this very special occasion,
which symbolized the society’s
10th anniversary, thirty-two
lovely area young lades were
presented to society. The affair
was held in the Embassy Room
of the Executive House.
At this formal presentation
of the debutantes each girl was
presented by her guardians.
The master of ceremonies
for the occasion was Mr.
Melvin Davis, assistant band
director at Lucy C. Laney High
School. He is also cotillion

rendered by the Augusta
Symphony Orchestra, under
the direction of Mr. Harry
Jacobs. The soloist for the
program was Mr. Ephriam J.
Williams accompanied by Mr.
Ellis Johnson.
One of the highlights of the
evening was the waltz for the
debs and their fathers. Also,
the debutantes and
sub-debutantes and their
escorts waltz.
The young ladies wore the
traditional white gown which
symbolizes the girl’s first
formal appearance to society.

with a boquet of red roses.
This special occasion was
witnessed by parents, relatives
and friends of the debutantes
and sub-debutantes.
Miss Precilia Tutt, daughter
of Mt. and Mrs. Cleo Preston
Tutt was crowned “Miss
Sub-deb” of 1974. Miss
Deborah Powell, last year’s
“Miss Sub-deb”, crowned Miss
Tutt.
Another happy note in the
program was the
announcement of “Miss
Cotillion” of 1974. Miss Cheryl
Evans, a freshman at Fisk
University, came back to
relinquish her crown to Miss
Cotillion. Miss Deborah P.
Powell, a senior at the
Academy of Richmond County
was crowned the new “Miss
Cotillion” of 1974’. Deborah is
