Enjoys Retirement,

MRS. CHRISTINE GARDNER
Mrs. Christine L. Gardner
recently retired as associate
executive of the USO where
she had served for 23 years.
In her retirement, she talks
mainly about the people who
helped her to carry out her
programs; Junior and Senior
Volunteers, the people at the
AMVETS, the American
Legion, the Ninth Street
Advisory Board, churches,
fraternities and sororities.
She has received letters of
commendation from the USO
National Board of Governors,
the YWCA National Board, the
Department of the
Army-Service Club Staff and
the Richmond County Board
of Commissioners. The USO
COuncil ,of the CSRA Junior
and Senior Volunteers gave her
a color TV set.

Lewis and taking a local group
out to Fort Gordon to meet
him. Mrs. Gardner was the first
to take a USO group out to the
Service Club at Fort Gordon.
She says that her greatest
joy was seeing the service men
that came through the USO
group into young men and try
to make something of
themselves.
Mrs. Gardner looks forward
to lots of travel. She has
already attended USO
conventions in Colorado,
Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta,
Kansas and New Jersey. She
has vacationed in California
several times, Jamaica, Mexico
City, the Virgin Islands, and
Bermuda. She says that she
may go to England this
summer.
Mrs. Gardner has two
children, James and Mary Ida.

Two Awards
Dr. Vivian U. Robinson,
associate professor of English
and Chairman, Division of
iHumanities. at Paine College
has been made a Danforth
Associate and named as an
Outstanding Educator of
America for 1974-75. The
associate program is an effort
of the Danforth Foundation to
recognize and encourage good
teaching and to strengthen the
human element of the
educational process. The
program emphasizes the role of
the teacher - scholar’s concern
for students qp individuals
Dr. Robinson’s honor as an
Outstanding Educator of
America comes as a result of
“extraordinary achievements
and contributions” in the field
of education. Her achievements
along with a complete
biography will be presented in
the Outstanding Educators of
America awards volume.
Dr. Robinson received her
A.B. degree, Lane College,
Jackson, Tennessee, M.A.
degree, Atlanta University,
Atlanta, Georgia and Ph.D.
degree University of Nebraska.

installed the following officers Sunday: (L-R) Mrs.

City Councilwoman Carrie J.
Mays presided over the
installation services and
presented keys to the incoming
officers.
