[Astrology ~ f
Lz
Y For the week of June 8-14'2^—*
ARIES (March 21 - April 20) You are very likely to take .
mischievous attitude, make telephone calls you should not make,
say things that will tease and injure others. You can cause real
ailments (nervous type) for this person who has never been
anything but good to you. Try to avoid this.
TARUS (April 21 - May 20) Be cautious not to overeat during
these days of happiness. Keep your mind on good-sense matters
at least to some degree and insure that health will hold up well.
Accept good-sense matters at least to some degree and insure that
health will hold up well. Accept an invitation from someone you
really would rather not see.
GEMINI (May 21 - June 21) You can find a lifemate quite
insistent. There may be reasons which you do not know of
behind all this. Someone is seeking self-protection rather than just
wanting your love. It is a time to be wise and reasonable, also not
to do anything unless you truly want to.
CANCER (June 22 - July 22) You may come to believe that
you must get out of a situation which has some of the appearance
of romance, it is questionable, however, and you may have grown
so close to a person that you cannot bring yourself to end the
relationship, even if you think you should.
LEO (July 23 - August 23) You feel that you are through with
romance and want little to do with the opposite sex. You can
develop a real hostility. If you review things you may see that
you have only yourself to blame for a foolish generosity.
VIRGO (August 24 - September 22) You may meet someone
new who impresses you quite a lot. This introduction will be
made through someone you are coming to love more and more,
although you may not like to use the word love. Perhaps you
really are afraid of love.
LIBRA (September 23 - October 22) You take a more serious
attitude toward your companion of the evenings, and may think
of suggesting marriage some time soon; however, you still are
somewhat afraid of losing freedom to be footloose and
fancy-free. Perhaps you are of an age when settling down
is-desirable.
SCORPIO (October 23 - November 22) A younger person of
your own sex may have certain ideas about you that you would
not like. You may be regarded as too much of a sex-object to be
much of anything else. This person can show some rather deep
disdain for you.
SAGITTARIUS (November 23 - December 21) You may
thoroughly dislike someone you have known for years and yet
find yourself involved socially with the person about now. You
may go together to many glamorous places. Other people who are
along help to lighten the way for you.
AQUARIUS (January 21 - February 19) Be very accomodating
to an older person who needs your affection. Call this lonely
person quite often in the evenings and let it be known that you
care deeply about the welfare of this friend.
PISCES (February 20 - March 20) If married, make your home
more beautiful, entertain, center attention on family. This is a
time for marital love, not for restlessness. Your career may
undergo a change and you may sign up for some special training
or be asked to go after it.

television and by themselves. I
was very close to Dr. King. The
Student Non-violent
Co-ordinating Committee
(Carmichael served as chairman
of SNCC) started out as a
youth chapter of SCLC.
NEWS-REVIEW: Probably
one of the clearest differences
between your philosophy and
Dr. King’s is you believe in
achieving the goal by any
means necessary, which can
include violence.
CARMICHAEL: Exactly.
And also non-violence.
NEWS-REVIEW: Whereas
Dr. King was totally
non-violent.
CARMICHAEL: That’s the
only major difference. He said
it was the ONLY way. If
anybody understands that
difference these people won’t
fight. All he’s saying is that it’s
the only way. I’m saying any
means necessary, which
includes his way. So I’m not
going to fight him. His way is
effective, but there are also
other means which are also
effective. Maybe guns might
also be effective. We are in fact
broadening our fronts.
NEWS-REVIEW: When does
the gun become necessary in
your opinion?
CARMICHAEL: When the
objective conditions permit it.
If people understood that then
they would understand the
greatness of Dr. King. People
attack Dr. King because he was
non-violent. But those people
who are attacking him were
not non-violent. They say they
couldn’t do anything with Dr.
King because he was
non-violent; well, that’s just an
excuse for doing nothing.
While Dr. King was being
non-violent, nothing stopped
them from being violent.
Nothing at all. The objective
conditions of the society at
that time did not permit for
violent action. The only
possible way of doing it was
using the tactic of
non-violence. As a matter of
fact, it was the tactic on
non-violence that made the
tactic of violence possible.
Dr. King again used properly

the tactic of non-violence to
heighten the contradictions of
the people. By the masses
seeing people getting their
heads beaten in, if he hadn’t
pushed for these
contradictions, nobody would
have seen Black people getting
their heads beat in for doing
just things, so their anger and
their contradictions wouldn't
have risen. The anger and
contradictions began to rise
because Black people were
doing everything that white
people said they should do,
and were doing it non-violently
and still white people were
reacting in a vicious and stupid
manner. Thus it left for you no
alternative but to. So, again,
those people who are making
criticism because they don’t
study history.
If we see truth and see truth
properly Dr. King was one of
the greatest Black men this
world has ever seen.
NEWS-REVIEW: Where do
you see the Black movement
right now? Are we moving
ahead? Are we standing still?
CARMICHAEL: We can
never stand still. I was reading
a news letter last night called
STRAIGHT AHEAD and it
said, that learning-and for
learning, it also said revolution
- revolution is like rowing
upstream, if you stand still you
go backwards. We are always
going forward.
Now the form of our
struggle changes, but it is still
just as intense. Frederick
Douglass spoke that without
struggle there is no progress.
But he said the struggle may
change, it may be with a pen, it
may be with words or it may
be with blows. But just because
we don’t see blows, don’t think
that the struggle is not going
on.
The struggle that is going on
inside the community is a
dynamic struggle. It’s a struggle
for precise objectives and
crystal clear ideology.
Wherever you go, Black
people are sitting down
discussing, man, on different
levels, whether it is about
electoral politics or getting a
Black mayor. All of these

discussions are vital.
Africa is becoming more
dominant in the lives of Black
people today. They have to
discuss it, and this is learning
that is extremely vital in a
revolutionary struggle. Without
it, you can’t even pick up a
gun.
NEWS-REVIEW: Has the
concept of Black Power been
fully understood by Black
people?
CARMICHAEL: 1 think the
people understand it properly.

It’s the masses thai make
history. Black Power came out
of the poorest section of the
Black community,-share
croppers of Lowndes County,
Alabama. And was given
proper expression in the Delta
of Mississippi. These were the
real oppressed masses of Black
people. They understood what
Black Power meant--they had
to have power.
You have to watch America.
It’s a tricky society. At first
the white man tried every
possible thing and every
possible way to stop Black
Power. He brought
NEWSWEEK against Black
Power. He brought TIME
against Black Power. He
brought every newspaper and
magazine in this country
against Black Power. He
brought every TV station and
every TV commentarian
against Black Power. He
brought the President of the
country against Black Power.

brought Negro institutions
against Black Power. And when
he was incapable of stopping
Black Power, he tried to define
Black Power.
NEWS-REVIEW: Are you
optomistic about the future of
the Black movement? Are you
pessimistic?
CARMICHAEL: Never!
Never! How can I be
pessimistic? Naw! We gon’ win!
I aint worried about that. I’m
just trying to figure out how
much style we gon’ win in.
