Waring Family
Donates Book
Collection To
Wallace Branch
Library
Announcement is made that
two new and separate
collections will be organized,
donated and funded to the
Wallace Branch of the Augusta
Public Library by the Waring
family.
The first, the Philip Waring
Collection On Human
Relations and Social Service”,
will be followed by the “M/Sgt.
Andrew Waring Collection On
Blacks In Military Service”
stated J. Philip Waring and his
sister-in-law, Mrs. Nellie
Waring, widow of the late
Master Sgt. Andrew D. Waring,
Augusta World War II combat
decorated hero.
Purpose of both collections,
stated Waring will be to
bring education and
information on past and
current happenings in these
fields. The first collection will
feature information on human
affairs, racial justice, equaf
opportunity and intergroup
relations, social service, health
and welfare, etc. It will also
include selected current
publications from the National
Urban League, NAACP, SCLC,
National Council of Negro
Women and the National Assn,
of Social Workers.
Mrs. Waring, in pointing out
that Augusta is a military
town, said the new collection
will highlight the service of
Black Americans in every war
to protect the life of the
Republic, should instill racial
pride in young people, identify
new Black fighting heroes and
generally tell about the
contributions of Blacks in all
of the United States armed
forces.
The Waring Family pointed
out that both collections
would be supplied and funded
during and after the life times
of both donors. In addition,
Mr. Waring, who is a 23-year
veteran with the National
Urban League Movement, will
contribute selected
professional papers, speeches
and copies of his weekly
column, “Going Places”,
published in local Augusta
papers and elsewhere for the
past 27 years.
