Linda Keyes Answers
Your Questions
Dear Linda,
I am sixteen years old and
have never had sex relations,
but I have a vaginal discharge. I
am afraid to tell my mother
because she has told me that
when you start “going with
boys” you can get infected and
will have a discharge. (2) Also,
I would like to use internal
sanitary protection, (tampons).
Would it be harmful for me?
C.
Dear C.,
It is normal to have vaginal
discharge. Vaginal discharge
can come from the uterus, the
cervix, the vagina or from all
three sites. Normally, there is a
clear secretion from the
cervical glands. As this

reunions have been held in
Willington, S.C. and Charlotte,
N.C.
Several years ago, some
family members had the
foresight to institute some
concrete means of keeping
alive the memories and history
of itself of a great and grand
lady, Mary Gillebeau Brown.
This history extends back to
1764 when the early Huguenot
settlers from France settled in
the Bordeaux colony along the
Savannah River. Andre’
Guillebeau was one of these
early setters and the home he
built situated between
Bordeaux and Willington, S.C.,
still stands after over 200
years. The family cemetery,
with its stone markers and iron
railing fence, is situated on a
hillside in back of the house.
The house itself is a massive
structure of hewn square logs
2’x2’ thick, put together with
wooden pegs.
Living quarters consist of a
large sitting room with a huge
stone fireplace, a dining room,
four bedrooms downstairs, and
a most unique stairway leading
to the second floor, consisting
of two rooms. At one time, a
spinning wheel the family used
for making thread was kept
upstairs. Also, a loom to weave
cloth was here. Incidentally,
the spread on display, which
belongs to Mrs. Robinson, was
woven by members of the
Peter Guillebeau family. There

secretion proceeds down the
vaginal tract it joins with
discarded cells from the walls
of the vagina, becoming
whitish and cloudy. This type
of discharge is normal. It does
not require any hygiene
measures other than normal
bathing and personal
cleanliness. A normal discharge
has no foul odor and causes no
irritation. Every woman has
some vaginal discharge, but the
amount may vary according to
the individual. Douches and
medication are not necessary,
in fact, they may be harmful if
used to attempt to “cure” a
normal discharge.
(2) No, unmarried girls can
use tampons. Tampons are

President Ford Addresses
NAACP; Offers No
Answers to Joblessness
Sticking to his promise that
he did not come with a
checklist of program items for
Blacks, President Gerald R.
Ford left the delegates to the
66th annual convention of the
NAACP empty-handed when
he had finished his address here
at the Sheraton-Park Hotel
Tuesday.
Delegate after delegate
expressed disappointment that
the President had not brought
a prescription for Black
unemployment which is
estimated at nearly 25 percent.
However, he placed it at only
12 percent, and told the 4,000
delegates that there are signs
that the recession is coning to
an end.
Regarding job
discrimination, Fcrd said that
through the same opening from
which the discharge and
menstrual fluid leaves your
body. This opening, in nearly
every case, is sufficiently large
to accomodate a tamprtn.
When you decide to use
tampons, give yourself plenty
of time to learn how.
Remember, too, that theme
was a first time for every
tampon user. Try using the
“junior” size for the first time.
Relax, tensing up will only
make insertion difficult. Take
your time and follow the
simple directions inside the
package.

the fire.
The log smokehouse is still
there where the family’s meat
was cured and stored. The
water supply came from a
spring down the hill. Once
there was a garden in which
grew such plants as mullen,
mint, horehound, etc., brought
from France. I understand
many of these herbs were used
for medicinal purposes. Large
oak, cedar, black walnut and
scaley bark (hickory nut) trees
still stand. At one time, Red
Indian peach trees were in the
orchard. These peaches were
red on the inside.
A blacksmith shop with
bellows, etc., once stood at the
back of the house. Another
small log cabin, since
destroyed, in this same area
was the birthplace of all the
Brown children. Peter
Guillebeau kept a room full of
bolts of cloth to furnish
clothing for all the children on
the homesite. After his death,
the family moved into the
home house.

he had emphasized to Lowell
Perry, the new chairman of the
Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission, that
this administration is
committed to “the elimination
of all vestiges of job
discrimination, because of race,
religion or sex.”
Ford commended the
NAACP for its new enphasis
on the economic problems of
Blacks.
The keynote address of the
convention was delivered by
Mrs. Margaret Bush Wilson
chairman of the board of the
NAACP. In a hard-hitting
message, she criticized
President Ford for his failure
to provide effective leadership
in employment, housing, and
desegregated education.
Emphasizing unem
ployment, Mrs. Wilson said:
“Today, in the face of
catastrophically high
unemployment, the nation
administration seems too
indifferent and unresponsive to
the humiliation and suffering
that millions of Americans are
enduring.
Executive Director Roy
Wilkins paid tribute to the late
Dr. John A. Morsell, assistant
executive director; Chairman
of the Board Bishop Stephen
G. Spotts wood; President Kivie
Kaplan; and Ms. Lucille Black,
membership secretary.
