“NOURISHING VS. TOXIC LIVING”
Who are you? What are you?
Are you aware of how you
relate to yourself, rather than
how you relate to others? Do
you try to do the best you can
to get what you want, or do
you wait for someone to give it
to you? Do you decide what is
best for you, or do you let
others decide for you? Do you
see your feelings and emotions
as important parts of yourself,
or do you see them as
weaknesses to be controlled?
These are just a few
questions we should ask
ourselves in order to find out
just what we are all about. A
nourishing person is interested
in personal growth and
survival. “Self-ness” rather
than “selfishness” is a healthy
manifestation. A toxic person
manifests • phoniness,
manipulation, and deception.
Their nourishment is toxic to
others and their relationships
tend to be unstable.
Dr. Jerry Greenwald offers
antidotes -to toxic living in his
book “Be The Person You
Were Meant To Be.” It is a
daring adventure into our
limitless capacity to poison
ourselves and others
empotionally. Dr. Greenwald is
a “Gestalt therapist” and leads
encounter groups throughout
the country. “Gestalt
Therapy” is the concentration
on the present and the
experimentation with new
attitudes and behavior in order
to discover a more nourishing
lifestyle, rather than dwelling
on past toxic experiences.
In this book Dr. Greenwald
offers some antidotes to toxic
living. There are certain
attitudes that he says we-
should take in order to fulfill
our potential for a nourishing
life. Such attitudes as: “I will
not immobilize myself (cop
out) by insisting that the world
has been unfair and owes me; I
would rather face my fears of
emptiness and loneliness by
letting go of a toxic person
than subject myself sto a
chronically poisonous
relationship; I believe that I
can more effectively discover
for myself what my solutions
and antidotes are than anyone
else in the world could possibly
do for me.”
A most fascinating book
that can undoubtedly help
anyone be the person he was
meant to be, or to discover
some of the toxic behavior that
has kept him from becoming
what he could and should.
Be the person you were
meant to be and enjoy the
fruits of a nourishing life.
