for the annual Paine College

Re-elect
Carter To
District
Office
The 7th District of Omega
Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.,
composed of the States of
' Alabama, Florida, Geotgia and
Mississippi, re-elected Bro.
James E. Carter 111 of Augusta
as the first vice district
representative.
This is the third term that
Carter will serve as the number
two Omega man of the largest
district of the fraternity. The
meeting was held at the
beautiful
Ambassadors Hotel in Miami,
Fla. The 7th District is
composed of 8 chapters and
contains more than 2700
members.
Locally, Bro. Carter is
director of minority student
affairs at the Medical College
of Georgia and is currently
serving as Chairman of the
Black Heritage Commission. He
is a ruling elder of the Christ
United Presbyterian Church
and a past president of the
Belair Hill Association.
Carter represented the 7th
District at the past Supreme
Council Meetings held in
Chicago and Washington, D.C.
He will also represent his
district at the National
Conclave to be held at the
Atlanta Hilton Hotel in
August.
He is currently a member of
Psi Omega Chapter of Augusta
where he has been active for
the past 16 years.
He is the son of Bro. and
Mrs. J.E. Carter Jr. Bro. Carter
Jr. is in his 51st year as an
Omega man and has received
numerous honors over the
years for his contributions and
will be honored at the
conclave.
Both Carters received awards
at the recent district meeting
for their active work with the
frathemity.

administration graduate of
South Carolina State College.
He has done further studies in
personnel and insurance at
various schools, including New

Elim is a member of the
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity,
served on the Top Ten -
Chamber of Commerce, he is
church clerk at his member
church, Antioch Baptist, and
he is active in Junior
Achievement.
Elim, a native Augustan, is
married to the former Edith
Dozier. He has a step son,
Willie J. Seymore.

It was suggested that since
Mrs. Hollis was such an
outstanding alumna it would
be well to place her picture in a
place where more can see it
from time to time. In keeping
with the suggestions, it now
hangs in the Trustee Room of
the college library.
The Rev. Michael L. McCoy
received the master of divinity
degree Sunday, May 2 from the
Interdenominational
Theological Center and the
Morehouse School of Religion.
A graduate of Paine College,
the Rev. McCoy is pastor of
Mt. Olive Baptist Church and
president of the Martin Luther
King Jr. Survival Coalition.

presentation of a study,
Theme; “Care of the Cronic
Patient” at the Sheraton Hotel
in Chicago, IL. April 21-23.
Mrs. Beard presented
Current Nursing in Chronic
Care. This included the effect
of activity group therapy as a
reconstructive plan on social
competence in chronic
hospitalized patients.
Mrs. Beard is a member of
Tau Gamma Delta Sorority,
Inc. and is active in many
activities in Augusta.

Barnes said that his
experience in business and on
the board of education lias
proved that reasoning together
quietly gets the best results in
government. Bames suggested
quarterly meetings between
city and county governing
bodies to achieve that.
The idea of a full-time
county administrator is
worthwhile, Bames said. He
said he would look into the
possibility of merging some
city and county departments
to save money.
The new one per cent local
option sales tax probably will
reduce tax millage this year,
and Bames said if elected he
would attempt to hold the
