Michael L Loner has joined
the Winchester-Western
Division of Olin Corporation as
a sales representative in District
15. He will cover the state of
Georgia.
His appointment was
announced by Richard P.
Douthat, district manager of
sales for District 15.

The Rev. Dr. Joseph E.
Lowery of Atlanta, Georgia,
and Mrs. Mary L. Daniels of
Leeds Alabama have been
appointed to the Paine College
Board of Trustees.
Dr. Lowery is the minister
of Central United Methodist
Church, the oldest and largest
predominantly Black United
Methodust church in Atlanta.
He is a native of Alabama and
has studied at Knoxville
College, Wayne University, and
Payne Theological Seminary,
earning A.8., 8.D., and D.D.
degrees. In addition, he has
studied at Garrett Theological
Seminary and Chicago
Ecumenical Institute. In 1975,
Dr. Lowery was awarded the
doctor of divinity degree by

Mayor Maynard H. Jackson
greeted some 40 insurance
executives arriving in Atlanta
today for the eighth Annual
Executive Seminar of the
National Insurance
Association, held at the
Peachtree Praza. The mayor
spoke to the insurance group at
a luncheon on the final day of
the conference.
The Seminar theme,
“Productivity and the Bottom

Dr. George S. Schuster has
been appointed coordinator of
dental microbiology in the
department of oral biology in
the School of Dentistry at the
Medical College of Georgia. He
also will serve as associate
professor of oral biology and
associate professor of
molecular biology in the dental
school
The appointment was
approved by the Board of
Regents of the University
System of Georgia effective
July 1.

Attorney General Urged Not To File
Anti-busing Brief
NEW YORK - The President
of the National Conference of
Christians and Jews has asked
the U.S. Attorney General “to
put law and justice ahead of
politics” and not file a
friend-of-the-court brief urging
the Supreme Court to
reconsider busing as a solution
to school desegregation.
In a telegram to Attorney
General Edward H. Levi, Dr.
David Hyatt asserted that such
a government position “would
make a mockery of all of the
past 22 years of effort to bring

Southern Christian Leadership
Conference, a position to
which he was nominated by
the late Dr. Martin Luther King
Jr. in 1967. As a close friend
and associate of Dr. King, Dr.
Lowery was one of the
founders of the SCLC. He is a
respected civil rights leader
who spearheaded the
movement which broke
segregation barriers in
transportation, police
employment, and other areas

The Rev. Joseph A. Francis,
a Black priest who is a member
of the Society of the Divine
World, a religious order in Bay
St. Louis, Miss., has been
appointed Auxiliary Bishop to
the archdiocese of Newark,
N.J. Rev. Francis is the fourth
Black priest to be given a
bishop’s position in the United
States
