Golden Wedding
Anniversary
The 50th wedding
anniversary of Bishop and Mrs.
R.D. Fields, will be celebrated
with a special religious service
at the Mason Chapel Church of
God located at 1134 Roselle
St
The affair will be held on
Saturday June 5, beginning at
2 p.m. and will be conducted
by members of the Churches of
God in Christ of the East
Central Georgia Jurisdiction,
Inc.
A number of out of town
pastors and congregations have
been invited along with friends
to take part in the celebration.
Evanglist W.M. Jenkins, of
Vidalia, Ga., will be the
speaker.
Prophet James H. Simpson,
of Cleveland, Ohio and Mrs.

Bishop and Mrs. Fields have
lived in Augusta since 1932. He
was appointed pastor of a small
mission, the pastor and family
has remained and the church is
now progressing. They reside at
1347-lOth Street and the
church is located on Roselle
Street
A real old-time Pentecostal
service is the way the minister
and wife preset to celebrate
with members and friends.
The Pilgrimairs Gospel Band
of Allendale, S.C., Faith
Temple Church of Dublin, Ga.,
Faith Temple Church of
Gifford, S.C., Brantley Temple
Church of Millen, Ga.,
Roberson Memorial Church of
Columbia, S.C., and others
along with Bishops, Elders,
Saints, Missionaries and friends
are included in the program.
Friends who would like to
share with the Bishop and his
wife in their Golden Wedding
Anniversary are invited to
attend.
Augustans

Masters’
Antoinette Carson, Maria A.
Smith, and Janice E. Turner,
all of Augusta, received
master’s degrees during
Commencement exercises at
Atlanta University this week.
Ms. Carson, the daughter of
Mrs. Martha Reid of 1106
Perry Ave. and a graduate of
Fort Valley State College,
received the master of- arts
degree.
Ms. Smith, the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Smith of
2479 East Ave., and a graduate
of Paine College, received the
master of arts degree. She is a
teacher in the Richmond
County school system.
Ms. Turner, the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Marion Turner of
1312 Perry Ave. and a graduate
of Clark College, received the
master of social work degree.
She is a member of Alpha
Kappa Alpha sorority and
Alpha Kappa Delta National
Sociological Honor Society.

Mrs. Elim
Mrs. Edith Elim was recently
promoted to assistant to the
chief accountant at the Pilgrim
Health and Life Insurance
Compant president W.S.
Hornsby, Jr. announced this
week.
Mrs. Elim is a native of
Lane, S.C., and attended
school in that area. She did
further study in Business

Administration at A&T
College, Greensboro, N.C.
Presently she completed six
courses in Life Office
Management.
Mrs. Elim is a member of
Antioch Baptist church and is
active in community activities.
Mrs. Elim is married to
Christopher Elim, Jr., and they
have two sons, Reginald and
Willie Seymour. ■

Alpha, the oldest Black Greek
letter sorority of college
trained women, honored Roy
Wilkins, retiring executive
director of the National
Association for the
Advancement of Colored
People, for his lifelong
dedication for the
improvement of race relations
in this nation.
Alpha Kappa Alpha made a
commitment of $50,000 this
year to Mr. Wilkins as a
Bicentennial contribution to
the N.A.A.C.P. $25,000 of the
commitment was presented at
a press luncheon in the
executive dining room of
Johnson Publishing Company.
The remaining $25,000 will
be presented to Mr. Wilkins
and the N.A.A.C.P. at the
sorority’s Boule at the Waldorf
Astoria in New York City in
July. This generous gift is in
addition to local contributions
to tire N.A.A.C.P. by Alpha
Kappa Alpha chapters
throughout the nation.
Wilkins, in response to tne
presentation of the gift stated,
“. . . tne chapters of A.K.A.
have contributed a total of
$98,150 to the work of the
N.A.A.C.P. tarougn their
purchases of life
memberships.” He recalled that
the late L. Pearl Mitchell, of
Cleveland, who was officially
designated A.K.A. - N.A.A.C.P.
coordinator in 1964, was

responsible for raising the
impressive estimated total of
$440,000 over the years.
During the past twelve
months, Miss Bernice I.
Sumlin, national president of
A.KA., said that gifts were
made of $25,000 for the
upkeep and refurbishing of the
birthplace of the late Martin
Luther King; $25,000 to
Central State University of
Wilberforce, Ohio for the
restoration of its Library of
Race Books which was
destroyed by a tornado in
1974 and the present
contribution to the N.A.A.C.P.
In addition to all these
contributions, a substantial
financial gift will be presented
to the United Negro College
Fund at the July Boule.
