Augusta Opera Sponsors
Poster Contest
The Augusta Opera
Association will sponsor a
poster contest for college art
students in Georgia and South
Carolina. A cash prize of SSO
will be awarded for the best
poster created for THE
ITALIAN (URL IN ALGIERS
by Rossini or SUSANNAH by
Carlisle Eloyd, the two operas
to be presented in the 1977
spring subscription season in
Augusta. Elie winning designs
max also he used as program
covers.
Contestants may submit as
many entries as they wish
which will become the
property of the Augusta Opera
Association and will not be

name of school he or she
attends and name of fine arts
department head or teacher.

opera and April 1 for

Coleman and Anne Barton of
the Georgia Council for the
Arts and two representatives
from the Augusta Opera
Association and Company will
be the judges. Awards will be
announced within 2 weeks of
deadlines.
Maximum sheet size for the
nosters is 18 1/8 x 25%:
maximum image size is 17% x
25%. Designs may be graphics
or silk screens. They may be
done in black ink on white
paper and be ready for
reproduction. For more

Tne Augusta Mini Theatre,
Inc. is now accepting
applications for persons
interested in taking Modern
Interpretive Dance class - ages
13 thru 15. The course will be
held at St. Mary Episcopal
Parrish House on Pine Street,
Thursdays and Saturdays at
6:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., and
1:15 to 2:15 respectively.

University Women met on
Tuesday, December 28, 1976
at the home of Mrs. Evelyn
Turner for its annual Christmas
Brunch.

To Meet
On Sunday, Jan. 16 at 6
p.m. T.W. Josey’s class of ’67
will nave an urgent meeting at
the school.
The basketball game
scheduled Jan. 26 between
Josey and Laney class of '67
will be discussed. All class
members interested in
participating in the game must
be present at the meeting.
The course is 8 weeks,
starting January 20th.
Applications are available at

The class is free to the
public. There are only twelve
slots available.

Jack And Jill Os America Welcomes New Members
Tiic Augusta Chapter of
Jack and Jill of America, Inc.
embarked upon a very
productive year under the
enthusiastic leadership of
President Audrey Thomas. The
activities culminated at tlie
Executive House on Monday,
December 27 at 7 p.m. with a
very impressive candlelight
installation ceremony for five
new members: Mrs. Gloria
Ciscrow, Mrs. Anna Reid. Mrs.
Catherine Gladman. Mrs. Betty
Walker, and Mrs. Betty
Pickett. The husbands of the
new members were in
attendance enhancing the full
meaning of Jack and Jill. At
the close of the installation,
the new members were
entertained with a banquet.
One of the highlights of the
affair was an inspirational
message given by Dr. Julius
Scott, President of Paine
College, who was introduced
by Commissioner Edward
Mclntyre, and who is also a
Jack.
The Augusta Chapter of
Jack and Jill of America, Inc.
was organized in Augusta for
the purpose of creating a
medium of contact for
children, which will stimulate
growth and development, and
to provide for them a
constructive educational,
cultural, civic, recreational, and
social program. It’s aims are: to
aid mothers in learning more
about their children by careful
study; to seek for all children
the same advantages which we
desire for our own: and to
support ail national legislation
aimed at bettering the
condition of all children.
The officers are: president,
Mrs. Audrey Thomas; vice
president, Mrs. Maxine
Thurmond; secretary, Mrs.
O’Greta Everett; corresponding
secretary, Mrs. Annie Gray;
treasurer, Mrs. Velvie Ketch;
program director, Mrs. Betty
Scott; assistant program
director, Mrs. Emma Starks;
Foundation chairperson, Mrs.
Willarena Williams; financial
secretary, Mrs. Juanita
Mclntyre; parliamentarian,
Mrs. Agnes Myers and chaplain,
Mrs. Shirley Nesbitt.
