the Augusta NEWS-REVIEW.
Mrs. Richardson will gather
and edit under her own by line
a monthly feature having to do
with chronological events in
Black history. This will cover
events, institutions and
personalities from the national
and local Augusta stage, and
will be a first-of-its kind Black
historical feature in the
Augusta area.
Mrs. Richardson, the retired
long-time Registrar of Paine
College, is a member of the
pioneer Augusta Allen famfly
and has been a leader in
educational and civic affairs
over the years. She is a member
of historic Union Baptist
Church. She attended Haines
Institute, was graduated from
Atlanta University with
graduate studies at other
instutions of higher learning,
was often complimented by
the late Dr. Lucy Craft Laney
for her attention to detail
during her attendance at
Haines.
Before returning to her
native Augusta, Mrs.
Richardson was a YWCA
director in Chattanooga. Tenn.
She taught at Haines Institute
for several year prior to
accepting an appointment as
Registrar at Paine College.
Under her administration
heading this office Paine
College experienced its greatest
change and growth.
A long-time member and
leader at historic Union Baptist
Church, Mrs. Richardson is a
co-founder and past president
of the local Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, a member and former
officer of the Augusta LINKS,
Inc., the Women’s Civic Club
and many other religious, civic
ind educational organizations.
Mrs. Richardson has been
active with the League of
Women voters.
She is married to Dr. C.M.
Richardson, who has served
Paine College in probably more
top level campacities than any
other person being: Professor,
Dean, Vice President an
Acting President as well as
coordinator of United Negro
College Fund activities.
NEWS-REVIEW Publisher,
Mallory K. Millender, thanked
Mrs. Richardson for accepting
the special assignment pointing
out that ‘now our thousands of
readers will get a chronological
view of Black History,
including a look a people,
places and events during past
years in Augusta’. He also
recalled that Mrs. Richardson’s
preceptive feature on ‘The Life
and Times of Dr. Lucy C.
Laney’ in the paper’s fifth
anniversary edition had won
wide praise around the nation.
