The Official Roy Wilkins
Commemorative Medal
The only medal officially authorized by the NAACP to honor
Roy Wilkins on the occasion of his retirement
HISTORY WILL REMEMBER Roy Wilkins as one of the great
men of our age. For he has selflessly devoted most of his life
to the cause of equal rights—as a member of the NAACP since
1931, and as its Executive Director since 1955.
Now, after more than a quarter century of courageous and
inspiring leadership. Roy Wilkins is retiring from his Executive
post with America's leading organization devoted to the advance
ment of black people. And so, to honor this great public servant
as he completes this era in his life, the NAACP has authorized
the creation of an official commemorative medal.
This official medal will bear an original sculptured portrait
of Roy Wilkins, created by the distinguished American artist
Cal Massey. And it will be minted to the most exacting standards
—struck with a flawless proof finish by The Franklin Mint, the
world's largest and foremost private mint.
The NAACP has arranged for this important medal to be
minted in three different forms: 24kt gold electroplate on
sterling silver, solid sterling silver, and solid bronze.
In future years, this commemorative medal is destined to be
treasured not only for its historical importance—but also for its
significance as a lasting reminder of Roy Wilkins’ ideals and
accomplishments. For it can truly be said that his tireless work
has bettered the quality of life in America—not only for black
people but for all people.
To acquire this official NAACP commemorative medal,
indicate your instructions on the order form at right and mail
it with your remittance directly to The Roy Wilkins Commemo
rative, NAACP, 1790 Broadway, New York, N.Y. 10019.
