‘Beauty of the Week’
The beauty of the week is Katrinda McQueen. She
was bom under the astrological sign Sagittarius.
A graduate of Glenn Hills High School, she attended
Shaw University as a chemistry major, and Augusta
College with a major in Business Administration and
Management. She is currently employed at WBBQ Radio
Station.
Her hobbies are sewing, reading and meeting people.
Her lifelong ambition is to become the owner of a
corporation of funeral homes.

of Allied Health Sciences,
Dentistry, Nursing and
Graduate Studies at the
Medical College of Georgia,
Augusta, will receive associate,
bachelor, master and doctorate
degrees at the college’s 147th
commencement to be held
Sept. 24 in the Bell
Auditorium, at 8 p.m.
MCG President William H.
Moretz, M.D., will confer the
degrees on the graduates. The
Rev. Joseph W. O’Brien will
give invocation.
Commencement remarks will
be made by Sam Singal, Phd,
Charbonnier Professor of cell
and molecular biology and
dean of Graduate Studies.
Provost Lois T. Ellison, M.D.,
will make announcements.
Venue moved
Augusta Area Technical
School graduation exercises
will be held at Paine College in
the Gilbert- Lambuth Memorial
Chapel, located on Druid Park
Avenue between Walton Way
and Central Avenue, at 7:30
p.m. today.
For those who have received
invitations, please note that the
location has been changed
from Augusta College to Paine
College. This change is
necessary due to a larger than
expected response to
graduation.
AKA names contestants
An array of young ladies and
a gentleman will compete for
the titles of "Miss
Fashionetta,” “Princess of
Fashions,” and “Little Miss or
Master Fashionetta,” to be
held at Augusta College on
Nov. 6, at 7 p.m.
The contestants are Portia
De Andrea Carpenter, Agatha

The Augusta Mini Theatre,
Inc. is accepting applications
for the fall quater. The classes
offered are Basic Acting,
Modern Dance, Creative Dance
and Introduction to Ballet.

Alumni meet
The Augusta Paine College
Alumni Association will meet
on Sunday, September 25, at
4:00 P.M., in the Student
Center on the campus. All
alumni and friends are asked to
come and greet our special
guest, Dr. Julius Scott and all
new faculty members.

The Coronation ceremony
will be held at the beginning of

Parish offers
a barbeque
The Church of the Most
Holy Trinity Parish will
sponsor a fundraising barbeque
towards its proposed Parish
Hall on Saturday, Oct. 8. The
barbeque supper and raffle, to
be held at Julian Smith Stand
on Milledge Road, will replace
the annual Church Bazaar.
The barbeque will be from

University women
hold fair for funds
The American Association
of University Women (AAUW)
will hold its annual Book Fair
on Saturday, October 8, at the
Daniel Village, National Hills,
and Columbia Square shopping
centers from 10 a. m. until 5
p.m. Proceeds from the sale
will go to finance college
scholarships. Books will
include fiction , nonfiction,
biographies, textbooks and
children's books. We are
soliciting all types of new or
used books,including paper
backs. According to a

Garden City Guild
puts on strange ’ play
The Garden City Guild
will present “ Outward
Bound,” a three-act drama by
Sutton Vane. The plot is a
strange story about a group of
oddly assorted people who are
passengers on an ocean liner
whose destination is unknown.
Suddenly the bewildered and
puzzled travelers come to
realize that they are all dead
and are headed for Judgement
Day.
One of the high points in the
play is where we come to
realize that hell is not fire and
brimstone; but hell is spending
an eternity witn certain people.
Also heaven can be other
people.
The production is directed by
J.C. Taylor and will be
presented at A.R. Johnson, Jr.
High School on Sept. 30th and
Oct. 2nd, at 8:00 p.m. There
will be a small charge at the
door.
The cast includes: Donald
Davis, Melinda Napier, Lindsey
Napier, Stella Sullivan, Vera
Larke, Abdun Hassan, Edwin
Smalley, Larry Terry and Paul
Walker.
Gandy
to speak
The Hudson Memorial
C.M.E. Church will observe its
annual Men’s Day Program at
11, on Sunday, Sept. 25. Mr.
Stewart B. Gandy, recently
appointed executive director of
the Bethlehem Community
Center, will be guest speaker.
Mr. Gandy is highly
recognized in the Central
Savannah River Area for his
work at Paine College. He is
also recognized throughout
Georgia and surrounding states
for his contributions to
education and religion. A
program filled with spiritual
knowledge and entertainment
has been planned for all.

Mrs. Emma R. Gresham
The Women of Mt. Zion
A.M.E. Zion Church will
celebrate Women’s Day
Sunday, Sept. 24, at 11.
The speaker for these
services will be Mrs. Emma R.
Gresham. Mrs. Gresham
graduated from Boggs
Academy, Keysville, Ga. She
received her B.S. degree from
Paine College and has done
further study at Atlanta
University, University of Ga.,
and Augusta College. She is an
Instructor of EMR class at Levi
White Elementary School.
Mrs. Gresham holds
membership in many civic and
professional organizations. She
is National President of Boggs
Academy Alumni Assn.;
Director of Young Peoples’
Division of Mission-Augusta,
Ga. Conference, delegate to the
General Conference in 1976;
Vice Chairman of Revisions of
Discipline Committee; a
member of the Compilation of
Discipline. She received the
Silver Beaver award from the
Scouts of America (the highest
award in Scouting). She is a
member of Mt Tabor A.M.E.
Church, Keysville, Ga. and an
affiliate member of Bethel
A.M.E., Augusta, Ga.
Mrs. Gresham is the wife of
Mr. Quinten G. Gresham. She
is the mother of four children
and four grandchildren. She is
the daughter of the late Rev. &
Mrs. Marvin Rhodes of
Keysville, Ga.
Mrs. Clementine Benefield
is chairwoman and Mrs.
Arizona Golphin is
Co-chairwoman of the
Women’s Day.
An interesting program has
been arranged for these
