Black Catholics
set collection
The annual Black Catholics
Concerned Collection will take
pbce in dioceses and parishes
throughout the U. S. A. on
Sunday, October 2nd. This
collection is used to sponsor the
activities and programs of the
Washington, D. C. - based
National Office for Black
Catholics, the activist
organization of America’s one
million Black Catholics.
In his letter supporting the
B.C.C. Collection, the Most
Rev. Eugene A. Marino S.S.J.,
D.D., auxiliary bishop of
Washington, D.C. and national
chairman of this year’s
Collection, reminded the
nation:
“For the past seven yeais,
NOBC has worked to help the
church, laity, priests, religious
and bishops to present the
message of Jesus Christ to
Black Americans so that they
might more clearly understand
it. . . . identify with it and
more readily embrace it.
Through creative programs. .
.NOBC has assisted. . .Black
churches and schools to be
more effective in celebrating
the liturgy and teaching the
gospel.”
NOBC Board President,
Walter T. Hubbard, of Seattle,
Washington, added, “moreover,
NOBC is also vitally concerned
and active with such social
issues as: unemployment,
education, housing, senior
citizen care and the welfare
and development of Black
youth-in short, those
Monday-to Saturday concerns
that affect the quality of life.
Your support is necessary for
the survival of this most vital
organization.”
