St. Mary’s to hold
90th anniversary
Historic St. Mary’s Episcopal
Church, 1114 12th St., will
observe its 90th anniversary of
service to the Augusta
community on Sunday.
The two-part service with
the Rev. Father Herman Stone,
vicar, will be celebrated with
Holy Communion at 11:15
a.m. A special 6 p.m. program
will also be held at St. Mary’s
Parish Hall with Rev. Father
Allan Clarkson, rector of Good
Shephard Episcopal church, as
anniversary speaker.
Father Stone will also
highlight aspects of the 90-year
religious service record. John
W. Barrington, junior warden,
will preside. Musical
presentations will be given by
the Augusta Black Festival
Chorus while special guests of
honor will be Mr. and Mrs.
Albert Bampfield. Her father,
the late Mr. Felix Holmes, was
one of the church’s first
members and also is credited
with helping secure a tract of
land on Telfair Street from the
Augusta Gallery

The Rev. Frank N. Moore of
Chester, Penn., will address the
Stewardess Board No. 1 of
Rock of Ages C.M.E. Church
when it sponsors its Third
annual “Ms. Stewardess Board
No. 1” contest Sunday at 5
p.m.
The Rev. Moore received the
bachelor of arts degree from
Cheyney State College.
Presently, he is a student at the
Gammon Theological Seminary
of the Interdenominational
Theological Center.
He is a veteran of the U.S.
Marine Corps and a Purple
Heart recipient of the War of
Vietnam. Presently, he is
pastor of Hampton Parish
Charge, Griffin, Ga.
The Gospel Choir of Mt.
Moriah Baptist Church of
Appling, Ga. will be the guest
choir.
