wrote a Communion hymn

God is near to us in every

His hand and heart and life.
Osler wrote:
O God, unseen yet ever near,
Thy presence may we feel;
And thus inspired by holy
fear,
Before thine altar kneel.
Here may thy faithful people
know
The blessings of thy love,
The streams that through the

Fear will be dispelled
By Pastor James H. Williams
Fear will be dispelled if we
follow the prescription God
has given to us in II Timothy
1.7, “For God has not given us
the spirit of fear but of power
and of love and of a sound
mind.” We find three words
compounded in the
prescription.
THE FIRST WORD IS
POWER. Fear brings a sense of
weakness. God gives us power
that will drive out fear. What is
this power that will counteract
Satanic fear and bring us God’s
deliverance? It is the power of
faith. It is available to you.
Romans 12:3, “God halth
dealth to every man the
measure of faith.” This faith
may be exercised and
strengthened through reading,
hearing, and mediating upon
the Word of God.
THE SECOND WORD in
God’s prescription is Love.
Love is one of the most
misunderstood and misused
word in the english language.
Hollywood and publishers have
made it synonymous with sex
and lust. This is not true. Love
is a strong dominant force.
Where there is love, fear
vanishes. I John 4:18, “There
is no fear in love, but perfect
love casteth out fear, because
fear hath torment, he that
feareth is not made perfect in
love.” Perfect love is perfect
trust.
Where the power of faith
and love abides, there naturally
ilw
l. Help is at hand! So
often, in the face of diffi
culty, we tend to panic. Yet
help is readily at hand, since
“God is not far from each of
us.”
It is a truism in life that
nothing that we actually need
is impossible for us to attain.
We need but separate our
“wants” from our “needs”
and then reach for the help
we need.. .at hand.
2. Our answers are supplied.
The psalmist was mindful of
this, many centuries ago,
when he held out for all to
hear and heed words remind-
A tribute to Rev. Nathaniel Irvin-
A humble servant of God
For you, Dear Minister, a daily prayer
Is offered to our God-
That no hurt, harm or danger-
Be in the path you trod.
Tho sickness come to you and yours.
The days be long and sad-
Our prayers for you have always been
That God’s sunshine will make you glad.
There is sunshine for you-
These 19 Years You Have Stood
With open arms and open heart
Intentions not lost, but good.
Lifting the fallen here and there.
Some poor sinners were saved.
Telling of Jesus’ wonderful love
And that he died to save.
Visiting homes, prisons and hospitals,
Widows, orphans and the poor
Preaching the gospel to every creature
Never shunning no man’s door.
For 19 years you have had blessings.
Sunshine, shadows and rain,
It took the rain and the shadows
To appreciate the sunshine again.
Several years ago, dear Minister,
Your soul to Jesus you gave,
19 years of that time, you have
Served our church and community with praise.
With more appreciations is our prayers,
To the God that keeps you from despair,
HOLD on to God’s unchanging hands.
Till he calls you home in mid-air.

The Augusta News-Review - February 16, 1978
follows THE THIRD WORD in
God’s prescription, a sound
mind. A mind at rest -a mind
at peace.
An unsound mind is
sometimes caused by a
breakdown of morals. When sin
invades, the mind entertains a
guilty conscience. This causes
fear of being found out. Faith
is gone, for how can one trust
God when sin is in his life and
he knows that he Holy God
will not look upon sin?
Sin is a substance which will
tear up and destroy the mind.
Many times a seemingly little
and insignificant thing will clog
up the entire course of one’s
life. If you are troubled with
an unsound mind, be sure and
get the obstructions out of
your life. Only one small
obstruction can jam up the fine
works of the soul and stop the
flow of the Holy Spirit in your
life. Remove the obstruction
whatever it is and peace will
follow. It will bring amazing
results.
ASK GOD FOR WHAT
YOU NEED. Believing that
you will receive it. Regardless
of the storms that may arise in
your life, trust God. He will
deliver you. A help that is not
present when we need it is of
no value. The anchor left at
home is of no value in the hour
of storms. As Christians we
need not fear, for we have an
ever present anchor, Ps. 46:1,
“God is our refuge and
strength a very present help in
ing us that all that we need
has been granted in what
God has already ordained,
decreed, prepared. (See
Psalms 103 and 150.)
3. God is waiting. Under
neath. . .awaiting simply our
call for help and dependence
...are “God’s everlasting
arms.” “O rest in the Lord.
Wait patiently for Him; and
He will give thee thy heart’s
desire.. .Commit thy ways
unto Him and trust in
Him...”
How gracious and how
near to us is God. “He is not
far from each of us.”
I
Rev. James H. Williams
trouble.” A “Present help” is a
help at hand. He is present
when we seek Him and need
Him. He is our refuge, let us
hide in Him. He is our strength,
let us lean upon Him. He is our
Saviour, let us trust in Him.
“For God has not given us the
spirit of fear but of power and
of love and of a sound mind.
Take your eyes off the storm
and look to God who controls
the storm. He calls to you
tday, “Fear not for I am with
thee, be not dismayed for I am
thy God, I will strengthen thee,
yea 1 will uphold thee with the
right hand of my
righteousness.” TAKE HOLD
OF THIS TRUTH AND FEAR
WILL VANISH. I thank God
for your deliverance today.
May heaven smile upon you
and give you peace. God loves
you.
