From Hollywood
Hello People . . .
Is Parliament on the verge of breaking up? We hear
they’re fighting so badly with each other that their
totally unparliamentary procedure will see the group
split irreparably before long. One source close to the
group even says they’ve already agreed to disagree and
go their separate musical ways.
The Jacksons are leaving CBS Records and return
ing to Motown, at least that’s the story we get from a
close relative of the Jacksons. Seems the guys are dis
satisfied with treatment over at CBS-TV (you’ll recall
that their hit summer series wasn’t renewed) and
decided to kiss and make up with the company where it
all began for them. Papa Joe Jackson wasn’t available
for comment. But then, he never is. He seems to look
upon the press as hovering somewhere around his feet

8.8. KING LENA HORNE JERMAINE JACKSON
waiting to snatch up any cast-off morsel of informa
tion he might off-handedly toss down to them. And
speaking of the Jackson clan, ever notice how much
Jermaine Jackson resembles a young Barry White?
D.J. Rogers’ next album, Love Brought Me Back, is
being held up so he can add one more track—produced
by Maurice White of Earth, Wind and Fire. The album
was finished a good while ago and Rogers produced it
all by his lonesome.
They’ve done all-Black versions of just about every
thing from The Wiz (Broadway, L.A.) to Pal Joey
(currently in L.A. with Lena Horne and Clifton
Davis), so why not an all-Black version of Alice In
Wonderland? Well, that’s exactly what will be opening
soon on Broadway with Debbie Allen eating the magic
mushrooms this time ’round as Alice.
And Bond isn’t the only celebrity expounding on his
public image these days. When questioned about
accusations of her being bisexual, soul screamer Tina
Turner didn’t back off one bit: “I’ve been accused of
being bisexual because I’m the type of person who is
very forward and 1 like beauty. If I see a goodlooking
man or woman, I’ll say ‘You’re very pretty’ or ‘You
have a beautiful figure’ or ‘You’re handsome.’ I’m
like that- I’m one of those very emotional people
about beauty and people have taken that differently.
Well, it isn’t true and once you meet me you know it
isn’t true, so I don’t worry about it.”
8.8. King is going to prison. And so is Patty Heart’s
former lawyer, F. Lee Bailey. In fact, they’re going to
be in stir together when they host a rap session for
prisoners at Norfolk Prison in Boston as part of their
activities on behalf of FAIRR (Foundation for the
Advancement of Inmate Rehabilitation and Recrea
tion). Both men have been involved with the organiza
tion since 1973. © 1978 Players International Publications
