Last weekend Augusta’s
Zeta Xi Omega Chapter of the
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority
boarded a chartered
Greyhound Bus in order to join
their many sisters in the South
Atlantic Region to celebrate
the 26th annual conference in
Pine Mountain, Ga. at the very
beautiful and popular Callaway
Gardens Inn. The basileus, Mrs.
Lunette Brigham, was always
on hand for guidance and
support and the bus
co-ordinator, Mrs. Eliza Cave,
was terrific with that
ever-smiling face and was
primarily responsible for the
Greyhound bus driver earning
his bachelor of arts degree in
human relations during the 8-9
hour bus trip.
If you run into basilus
Brigham during the next
month and she’s still smiling,
it’s because tire Augusta
chapter received the Graduate
Attendance Award for having
the largest graduate delegation
at this conference. We were
26-strong, and very proud of
our leader’s dedication and
expertise. And if prizes had
been awarded for the cutest,
prettiest and tiniest
photographer, Augusta would
have won that, too, because
“Jackie” Millender in her
beautiful ivy green dress was
the fastest “picture taker” I’ve
ever seen, (smiles)
For those who have not
visited Callaway Gardens, place
it on your holiday agenda.
There’s swimming, fishing,
boating, bicycling,
paddleboats, picnic areas, golf,
biking and hiking, and even a
beautiful chapel, special classes
for creative decorating and
entertaining. Yes, there’s

TRIP TO COLUMBUS, GA.
AKA Soror Melvena Gentry
treated many of the Augusta

hometown, Columbus, Ga.
Soror Gentry insisted that we
see the AKA house, highlights
of the city and lastly, visit her
home and meet her husband.
We enjoyed it thoroughly. More
later about Columbus.
