‘Mighty to Save’
When you must stand alone
By Mallory K. Millender
There comes a time in life
when you must stand alone,
the Rev. Andrew Johnson
told a packed congregation
of the Christian Fellowship
Circle last Sunday night at
Antioch Baptist Church.
Speaking on the subject
“Mighty to Save” the First
Mt. Moriah Baptist Church
pastor focused his message
on a lone traveler who
appeared out of the “dust
of ■ racism, oppression,
prejudice and injustice.”
A watchman said the
traveler looked like a
“mighty hero returning
from a bloody
engagement.”
The splattered blood on
his tattered garments
showed that he had been in
battle, but the Rev. Johnson
said, the traveler was
“returning from the horrors
of battle unassisted.”
The watchman noted that
the traveler didn't seem to

He swings his hands in the
air as if he is the sole owner
of the four winds of the
universe.”
His face is raised to the
heavens as if he heard the
Psalmist say: “Fly wide, fly
wide ye everlasting gates
and let the King of glory
come in,” the watchman
said.
When the traveler spoke
he said, “When I spoke out
against wrong, my close
friends turned their backs
on me. I had to fight by
myself. That’s why my
clothes are bloodied.”
There comes a time in life
when you must stand alone,
the Rev. Johnson repeated.
Who is this man? By what
authority does he claim I
can save you? Why is he
here; And by what
authority and what standard
is he qualified to save?
These are all questions the
church must ask, the Rev.
Johnson said.
The traveler took it upon

“He’s the blacksmith that

is the Word that was made

He is mighty in battle
strength and in mind.
By the time the Rev.
Johnson asked, “Don’t you
know him? Don’t you know
him? the entire
congregation and pulpit
ministers had risen to their
feet, answering
affirmatively.
“When your friends pat
you on the back, smile, and
say I’m with you. And soon
as you turn your back...
He’s mighty. He’s mighty
to save.”
