Walker Baptist Choir fills need for ‘special' chorus

The Walker Baptist
Association Choir (WBAC) was
born out of a need. And for
more than a decade, it has
filled the need for a special
choir for special occasions.

Golden, the assistant director
of the WBA and director of the
musical department of the

contacted members of various
churches and put together a
chorus of 86 voices for the
event.
After the centennial
celebration, the chorus’ first
performance, members of the
chorus voted to continue
performing and name the
chorus in honor of the WBA,

The Walker Baptist
Association Chorus (WBAC)
presented its first musical, a
Christmas program, Dec. 8,
1968.
The second engagement was
on Jan. 1, 1969, for the
Emanicipation Proclamation
Program. That event has
become an annual performance
for the WBAC, Mrs. Aundre

Memorial Club will meet
Saturday, July 21 at the home
of Mrs. L.R. James, 742
Fleming Ave. Members are
invited.
The Rev. Eddie Key is the
pastor.
Anniversary
to be held
The 90th anniversary of the
Mt. Olive Baptist Church will
be observed Sunday, July 16.
The master of ceremonies
will be Brother J.E. Sams.
The Rev. J.R. Thurmond of
Walnut Grove will be in charge.
Clark, one of six pianists for the
WBAC, said.
Mrs. Golden said the WBAC
has appeared statewide,
performing for church benefits
and upon invitation by
organizations. The chorus sings
Negro spirituals. hymns,
anthems and gospel selections,
she said.
Although the WBAC has
nearly doubled in size since,
1968 and now h as

No auditions are held for
membership. Mrs. Golden said,
adding that “whosoever will
rnay come and sing with us.”
Men's Day
to be observed
Thankful Baptist Church
will celebrate its annual
Women’s and Men's Day July
15 at 11 a.m. Speaker for the
occasion will be Dr. Bradford
G. Brown on the staff at
Louisiana State University
Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology.
Dr. Brown is a graduate of
Morehouse College and
Meharry Medical College, both
with high honors.
