The Outspoken
T CRAIG
r WILSON
From Hollywood
Singer Bette Midler is on the screen and the scene in
a big way following her Oscar type performance in The
Rose as a troubled rock star. Bette is joined in one
scene by Sylvester in full drag for a moment of campy
fun.
Congratulations are definitely in order for the “Say
Hey” man, Willie Mays, since he signed that contract
with a New Jersey gambling casino to be their public
relations man at a fat fee of one-million dollars for ten
years. The only catch is that Willie must work at his
new position at least one hundred days per year. At
least he doesn’t have to worry about fly balls, stealing
bases, almost blind empires or baseball commis
sioners.
Willie will now have time to take a good look at the
three beauties that compose the Starguard trio, Ro
chelle Runnells, Debra Anderson and Janice Williams
since they have retired those tired, tacky space cos
tumes to the closets of the outer world. The ladies not
only look good, they sound even better on their new
LP.
MARY WILSON SYLVESTER FREDA PAYNE
The cornerstanders report that Marvin Gaye and his
Jan are back in love and their burning romance is all
that is needed to heat their spacious home. That’s one
way to save energy during this crisis.
Tinseltown’s Diana- Disco couldn’t hold another
person when Valentin Singleton presented Freda
Payne in a special disco showcase. The lovely Freda
was red hot and the packed house loved every moment
with the dynamite lady, including a very quiet Em
peror, diplomatic workers and several other disco
owners who came to see and hear. Following Valen
tin’s presentation of red, white and pink roses to the
star, Freda was joined on stage by little sister Sherry
who also rocked the house with her vocal stylings. The
ultra-fashionable late arriving disco folks had their
feelings hurt when there was just no place for them to
sit, stand or squat.
The grapevine says that singer Bobby Womack has
cancelled his long awaited tour due to a lack of organi
zation. Bobby hasn’t been on the road for more than
two years and is known not to go out unless everything
is in apple pie order.
Original Supreme Mary Wilson is carrying on in the
grand manner according to our European spy. Mary is
playing to packed houses and is being treated like roy
alty everywhere she goes on her latest overseas tour.
Magic Mary has a couple of solid hits on her latest LP
and we hope that she will hit the continental U.S. trail
when she returns home.
More 411 passed along by transcontinental Ma Bell
is that the clean-cut singing group known as ABBA is
not only the largest selling record group in the world,
but that its Swedish-based ABBA corporation is the
most profitable business in that country. Now that’s
entertainment.
