deep in center, first of single, rigid units.
Adjustable steering wheel hinged to swing

impulses in every cycle—overlapping so
completely that they melt and merge, one
into another, in a steady flow of power.”
Open models capable of 60 to 65 mph.
Linoleum-covered running boards. Ten
body styles from $1975 to $3600.
1924 Cadillac Roadster Type V-63:
Beloved by “those who enjoy a dashing
appearance in a motor car,” the V-8 was
redesigned with inherently balanced two
plane 90-degree crankshaft, 83 bhp at 3000
rpm. The four V twins produced a smooth
ride with little engine vibration. In effect, it
obsoleted all long crankshaft engines. Four
wheel brake system, the Perrot, applied
brakes to the front wheels, used rods or
cables that could be adapted to the turn of
the wheels in steering, yet transmitted brake
torque. Styled with longer hood, deeper
fender crowns. Higher radiator with nickel
plating. Two-piece ventilation-and-vision
windshield. Price: about S3IOO.
1931 V-16 Phaeton Series 452A: Created
a “glamorous” image for Cadillac. Long
and luxurious. Interior with sheepskin floor
mats, parcel and umbrella holders, vanity
sets, automobile robes, spotlights. The cus
tomer could pencil in design changes and
indicate color and upholstery schemes.
Silent, effortless propulsion with accelera
tion 10 to 80 in 36.70 seconds. Maximum
speed, 80 to 100 mph depending on axle
ratio, body style. Easy to drive, with a
bore/stroke of 3 by 4 inches, 452 CID.
Horsepower rated at 57.6, brake horse
power 165 at 3400 rpm. Cast iron blocks,
separate aluminum crankcase, two separate
eight-cylinder, in-line-type intake mani
folds, each with updraft Cadillac carbure
tor. Full dual exhausting from each bank.
In building the V-16 Cadillac, engineers
learned a great deal that helped them design
a far more efficient, economical and power
ful V-8 with half the cylinders. Unit trans
mission and clutch. Air-cooled generator,
deflecting headlights. Priced from $5250 to
$9200.
1941 Series 62 Convertible Coupe: Every
schoolboy’s dream, a car bearing the
“Cadillac look” developed as the “mod
ern” auto for model year 1938. New, bold
egg-crate grille for 1941. Engine 346 CID
V-8 with 150 horsepower at 3400 rpm.
Compression ratio: 7.25 to I. Wheelbase of
126 inches. Hydra-Matic transmission,
sealed beam headlamps. Integrated running
board. Maximum speed of 100 mph. Zero
to 60 in 14 seconds. Base price about $1750.
1967 Eldorado Coupe: Front wheel drive
with 429 CID engine. Horsepower 340 at
4600 rpm. Compression ratio: 10.5 to 1.
Four-barrel carburetor and new fan clutch
in cooling system. Three-speed Turbo-
Hydramatic transmission mounted longi-
tudinally alongside engine. Spiral bevel ring
gear and pinion with planetary differential,
3.21 ratio. Constant velocity joints on drive
shafts. Integral frame. Front suspension
torsion bar and A arms. Telescopic shocks,
stabilizer bar. Automatic leveling control.
