State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education (TEC). This grant will provide some members of the Aiken Tech faculty with an opportunity to go back to work in business and industry for a few weeks. During this period, instructors will gain on-the-job, first-hand experience with new ideas, new methods and new technology. Instructors will then bring these new ideas and techniques back to the classroom and pass them on to their students. The grant money will be used to hire replacement instructional personnel during the instructor’s absence. The whole “Design for the 80’s” program was the brainchild of William Dudley Jr., Executive Director of tire State Board. He and State Board members realized it is imperative that the TEC system stay on top of the fantastic advances in technology taking place during the 70’s and 80’s, not only to lure new industry to the state but also to prepare South Carolineans for careers in high technology industry such as computerized electronics and microprocessors. And although the English lay claim to the first pie, just when and where savory and sweet fillings were first served with a crust of pastry has never been pinpointed. Today the cuisine of almost every country contains pie of some sort, but it’s the hearty meat and vegetable pies we’re featuring here, not dessert pies which most readily come to mind. Hamburger Pie with Vegetables is packed with pickled peppers that add a hearty tang and crunch to make an appetizing one-dish dinner meal. The Eggplant Pie offers a change of pace with the nutritious vegetable at its peak right now. Both recipies will be welcome additions to your spring menu file. Enjoy!
