JFife woes turn
Redd to Sanford
Comedian Redd Foxx has
been forced back into doing
“Sanford” -a role he detests -
because he’s squandered his
millions and now is desperate
for money.
Foxx is getting $75,000 a
week starring in his new series
about junkman Fred Sanford --
and he needs it, insiders say,
because:
He loves lavish living - and
has thrown away a fortune on
girls, cars and the good life.
His nightclub has failed
dismally, and so have his
production company,
cosmetics business and his
Hollywood beauty salon.
His Korean third wife is
suing him for half his assets,
including part of the residuals
from “Sanford and Son.”
He’s still making heavy
alimony payments to his
second wife.
“He had to go back into
series television. He’s hurting
badly for money,” said a
longtime friend.
“He’s spent a fortune on
women, wives, an; cars. He
wants to be young again and
live like the fast young crowd.
“The fact that he has to play
Sanford again is certainly not
to his liking. He’s told me he
hates that cranky old
character. But apart from his
nightclub act in Vegas, almost
everything he touches lately
turns to ashes.”
The friend said that the
comedian’s attractive third
wife, Yun Chi Chung, is “out
to get every last penny,” she
can from him. On top of that,
he’s paying second wife Betty
Jean “a fortune” in alimony.
“He knew he had to go back
into TV for the big money, a
new series would generate. He
was fading fast,” the friend
said. “Now his big fear is that
triumpherate.”
Gomillion’s friends describe
him as “gentle, kind and
generou£’ But he said his father
once told him, “You are the
laziest and stingiest Negro I
have ever seen.”
“And he was right,”
Gomillion conceded. “I don’t
waste my money. I’m

the series will flop., he just
can’t afford that, and it would
be a terrible blow to his
oversized ego.
“He knows there are plenty
of people who want him to fall
flat on his face. Redd made a
lot of enemies, especially
among the old-time black
comics he brought of Los
Angeles with promises of a job.
Not many of them got jobs.
“The hatred of Redd got so
bad that one of his enemies
poisoned his beloved dog. They
threw poisoned meat to it at
his home.”
Foxx has angered former
members of the “Sanford and
Son” cast by refusing to use
them on his new show, saying
they’re “bad luck.”
But one ex-member bitterly
charges that the new show is a
“rip-off” of the old series -
and predicts it’ll fail without
the old cast.

Since his retirement, he has
moved to Washington, D.C.

refused to accept pay.
