Earlier that afternoon I had a chance to talk to Walter “Clyde” Orange, lead vocalist and drummer for the group. I asked him now that the Commodores have recorded rock, gospel, country and R & B what’s next? With a simple smile he said, “the sky is the limit, we plan to do some jazz, as the Duke Ellington style, maybe movies, producing and performing.” The group has also been writing songs for Kenny Rogers. From their R&B base, they have enlarged their dimensions, effectively illustrating the true magnitude of their talents. Their first pop and country/western success, “Easy,” hit in 1977 after three years of chart-topping ‘soul’ singles and albums. At the same time, they drew the attention of easy listening audiences. With “Three Times A Lady,” introduction to the classical field came easily with Maestro Andre Kostelantz’s rendition of the tune with the Philharmonic Orchestra. Further praise came from ASCAP in Nashville with the Songwriters' Award for the same tune. And now ... “Sail On,” a winner for country and pop fans alike, “Midnight Magic,” a phenomenal introduction to the disco market, and of course “Still,” a lyrically brilliant follow-up to “Three Times A Lady”. Bledsoe, appointed by Governor George Busbee as State Coordinator for the 1981 White House Conference on Aging, has announced that the 1981 Georgia White House Conference on Aging will be held in Atlanta March 2-5, 1981. Any person interested in becoming a delegate, should apply by October 15. The Georgia Conference is only one step in a series of activities which will culminate with a National White House Conference on Aging in Washington, D.C., November 30-December 4, 1981. Bledsoe says, “The State and National Conferences are designed to draw attention to the growing number of older persons and the policies needed to maximize the resources of this important segment of our population”. According to Mr. Bledsoe, “This is the first phase in planning for the 1981 White House Conference and is focused on local and state sponsored activities. Local White House Conference Community Forums are now being held statewide and will continue through September. The community forums are designed to provide local citizens of all ages with an opportunity to hold and participate in public discussions on issues important to the elderly. The input from these community forums will be used to design the agenda for the Georgia White House Conference in March”. A total of 1800 voting delegates will attend the National White House inception of Commodores Entertainment Corporation, the members of the group have played an active role in their own business affairs, a unique phenomenon that has been proven effective by the growth and longevity of their success. The Commodores completed a 1979 World Tour that included the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, South America, Western Europe and the Far East, where the group satisfied the fans who have been consistently supporting their albums and singles since “Machine Gun.” This year has a great deal in store for American fans including a National Tour and the probability of major feature film (the first since “Thank God It’s Friday”), and a Commodores’ television special. Keep me from interrupting them, talking back to them and contradicting them. Make me as courteous to them as I would have them be to me. Give me the courage to confess my sns against my children and to ask them forgiveness when I know that I have done them wrong. May I not vainly hurt the feelings of my children. Forbid that I should laugh at their mistakes or resort to shame and ridicule as punishment. Let me not tempt a child to lie and steal.
