Green earned a bachelor’s degree in business majoring in computer science at Central State University in Oklahoma. He completed a master’s of divinity at the Interdomoninational Theological Center in Atlanta. He did additional graduate work at Atlanta University in Pierce Grove to celebrate anniversary The 62nd aniversary of the Pierce Grove Baptist Church, will be celebrated Sept. 7 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Ernest Gordon from Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, Greenwood, S.C. and Eddie Key Gospel Choir will be in charge. The Rev. Eddie Key is the pastor. Gardner Grove to hold fall revival Gardner Grove Baptist Church will hold its fall revival September 7 through September 12 at 7:30 nightly. The Rev. Willie Jackson, son of the house will be in charge of the services. The Rev. Willie Parks is the pastor. Local scouts can win two awards Scouts in the Georgia-Caro lina Council, Boy Scouts of America, have the opportunity to earn two national hiking awards, the Historic Trails and the 50-Miler Award. “The Historic Trails Award is earned by the members of a Scout troop who organize and participate in a historic activity if it includes a hike or camp for at least two days and one night along a historic trail or in the vicinity of a site,” said Walter Hornsby 111, Program Vice President. The troop must cooperate with an adult group, such as a local historical society, in the restoration and marking of all or part of the trail or site. The 50-Miler Award is presented to each member of a chartered or provisional troop for satisfactory participation in an approved wilderness trip. This activity must include planning a trek. Individuals must cover, without the aid of motors, a wilderness foot trail or canoe or boat route of not less than 50 consecutive miles. Scouts must complete a minimum of 10 hours of group work on improvement projects. Oliver Otis Thompson was recently appointed pastor of the St. Mark United Methodist Church. A native of Texarkana, Texas, he began preaching at the age of 13. He earned the bachelor’s degree from Philander Smith College and did his graduate work at Roosevelt University where he concentrated on voice, instrumental and orchestral conducting. In addition to having simultaneously served as band director and choir director in the public schools of Arkansas and Georgia for 16 years, he sings first baritone with the Atlanta Choral Guild Society of Atlanta, which recently Rev.
