Be is , the former “What Must I Do To Be Saved” By Richard Williams, Minister Church of Christ SPEAKING THE TRUTH IN EOVEt L ' f We have in this record the Jailor’s question of What To Do To Be Saved, and the answer to that question. It is important to note* that he was not told that 'he could not do anything to be saved, or that it was all unchangeably fixed before the world was. * Neither was he told that God does it all for man. But he was toid to do something, and it was something which he could do--and did do--the same hour of the night. Before they preached unto Him, they simply told him in comprehensive or broad terms how to be saved. They said; “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and Thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” (Acts 16:31). 101st Anniversary Observed The observance of the 101st. anniversary of Second Mt. Washington This simply meant that he would have to trust, or rely upon the Lord Jesus, by doing what He said, in order to get his salvation . Apparently they did not wait for him to ask a number of questions about who the Lord is so he could believe on Him: but the next words say, “and they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and unto all that were in his house.” (Acts 16:32). This sermon is not recorded, but it is certain that they told him about the Lord and how he had required all to repent and be baptized in obedience to Him. There is evidence of genuine repentence, because these preachers had been beaten with many stripes and thrust in prison. Here he is trying to undo all the harm that had been done, a thing that an impenitent man would not do. And the next verse with Mr. Jerry Johnson presiding. The history erf the church will be reviewed by Miss Rosalyn Senard Cook, and the sermon will be delivered by the Rev. J.J. Broadnax, pastor Pilgrim Baptist Church, in Atlanta. THE PROGRESSIVE AID MEN’S CLUB OF HAM MOND GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH will meet Saturday evening, March 28, at 5 p.m. All members of the club are asked to be present and on time. He is a member of the says: “He took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his. straightway.” (Acts 16:33). He was then saved by faith in Christ, who had said in the great com mission, “Go Ye Into All The World, and Preach The Gospel To Every Creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be dammed.’’ (Mk. 16:15,16). He then had what Paul later calls “The obedience of faith.” (Rom. 16:26). His faith was now obedient faith, and the record says of Christ that he “became the author eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him.” (Heb. 5:9). After baptism, he and his family were very happy and rejoiced in these gospel promises, for the next verse says: “And when He had brought them into his house. He set meat Dinner will be served at the close of the evening ser vice. The Rev. M.J. Whitaker, pastor. 34 Make A.R. Johnson Honor Roll Thirty-tour students at A.R. Johnson Health Professions High school concluded the winter quarter with an overall average of 90 or abpve and received no ‘C’ grades. This represents 35 percent of the student body. Students who achieved honor roll status were: ( Alton Hart, Tracey Odom, Deltrye Eagle, Donnie Dunagan, Vicky Podlas, Natalia Thrash, Jolayne Woo, Dianne Swain, Dawne Buck, Dana Howard, Marsha Jones, Jimmy Seese, Fay Cobb, Michelle Mason, Kami Pittman, Sharon Eagler, Ralph Barbee, Lavinia Dawson, Thelma Panton, Jack Ellis, Dawn Green, Mike Kimble, Melita McGahee, Tonia Rucker, Toni Inmon, Yolanda Grant, Mike Toth, Olivia Prather, Janet Walker, Della Roberts, Terri Davis, Mary Truitt, Bryan Alva and Kathy Lewis. Augusta Ministers Baptist Conference and a member of th.e Liberty . Baptist Church. The Rev. Washington is married to the former Ida Mae Reed. They have one son. David Lee Washington, a daughter-in law. Patricia Neal Washington, and a gran dson. David Lee Washington, Jr. ul Richard Williaml before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house." (Acts 16:34). He was then a Christian and a member of the Lord's church. There was no altar call nor effort to pray him through—no voting upon the question of whether or not he was fit to be baptized. He simply heard the gospel, believed in Christ, put his faith into obedience by repenting and being baptized, and was saved. While the jailor was saved by faith, he was not saved by faith alone. The fact that one is saved by faith does not prove that one is saved the very moment he believes, before and without any act of obedience. James says, “though a man says he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith save him?” (Jas. 2:14). Again he says, “Ye see then how that by works a man is justifies, and not by faith only.” (Jas. 2:24). Again he says; “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so , faith without works is dead also.” (Jas. 2:26). Paul says, “By faith the walls of J ericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.” (Heb. 11:30). Here, the walls fell by faith; yet not the very manent they believed, but after their faith had worked or obeyed for seven days. Just so. the Jailor was saved by faith; yet it was not the very moment in which he believed, but after his faith worked or obeyed. Paul says the faith that avails is “faith which worketh by love.” The J ailor was saved by that kind or degree erf faith. He put his faith into obedience by repenting and being baptized, and was saved. To Be Continued Evangelist MADAM BELLE Healer and Advisor Got bad luck voodoo? Do you have a hexmon you?
