What God lias
Joined Together
But our text is not
especially limited to
marriage. It says what”
God hath joined together
let not man put asunder
God hath joined himself
and his son. They are one
(Jn. 10:30), just as busband
and wife are one. There are
millions who say that they
will accept God in the Old
Testament. They are out to
put asunder what God hath
joined together.
Holy Spirit and Word
....That is not all: When
converting and instructing
mankind, the holy spin!
and the word of God are
joined together in the
Bible, just like husband and
wife. David said, “The
spirit of the Lord spake by
me. and His word was in
my tongue.” (2SAM. 23:2)
Therefore, when David
spoke, it was‘not bis mere
word that was heard,but
it was the spirit of the Lord
speaking by him. He said
"His word”— the spirit s
word-was in bis tongue.
The words which David
spoke were the spirit’s
words, and not man’s
words. Neheniiab said :>r
prayer to God, H’ou
gavest also they good spirit
to instruct them.” (Neb.
9:20.) But God did not
give the spirit directly
each individual to instruct
him: rather he sent the
spirit to the prophets and
through them instructed the
people. The prophet goes
on to say. “Yet many years
didst thou forbear them,
and testifiedst against (hem
by the thy spun i they
prophets.” (Neb. 9:30) So
the spirit was given to such
men as David (a prophet ot
God, an inspired man I and
the spirit spoke '>r ugr
such men and instructed
the people through them.
In no age of the wald
has the spirit been sent io
the masses to instruct them
independent of the prophets
and inspired messengers >t
God. The people in no age
have been left to go 1 v
their feelings and
imaginations. Everything
